Ever since I watched Dave Lang play some of this game during Extra Life 2022, it's had its hooks in me. They made a fairly major update in early February so I dropped off of it, but the 1.0 announcement came a lot sooner than I predicted. Has anyone else been playing (or was playing and stopped) WarTales, and if so, what were your thoughts on it? Semi-related, since I've been monitoring several...

dear blog, i've decided to reinstall fortnite. I was torn between that and grand theft auto, but I have plans next week...so I picked fortnite because of the "Pick up and play" style of gameplay. Grand theft auto online unfortunately requires a much larger time-investment...everything takes forever to do...it's buggy, and it's a cumbersome hodgepodge of maybe too much shit in one game. Overwhel...

An explanation of what I'm doing here can be found in my introduction post . Last week, we took a look at the January 1996 Saturn releases of Wing Arms, NFL Quarterback Club '96, Mortal Kombat II, World Cup Golf: Professional Edition, Darius Gaiden, and Hang-On GP . Also last week, we took a quick gander at EVERY game released for the Atari Jaguar in 1993: Cybermorph, Trevor McFur in the Cresce...

Note: The following article contains major spoilers for Manifold Garden. After the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632 A.D., Islam's political and religious leadership fell to a succession of men called "caliphs". Each caliph ruled over lands and a community called a "Caliphate". Historically, there have been five major caliphates, each effectively comprising a Muslim empire. [1][2] In the wes...

Hey there folks. It's been a while. Almost a year, in fact. I know it's a bit played out to roll out the ol' "where does the time go?" line, but I'm not sure what else to say. I've thought about throwing something up here a couple of times these past few months, but now feels like the right time to knuckle down and actually do it. This is going to be pretty scattershot, but I think it's better...

Earlier this week, we looked at the January 1996 Saturn releases of Wing Arms , NFL Quarterback Club '96 , Mortal Kombat II , World Cup Golf: Professional Edition , Darius Gaiden , and Hang-On GP . The Jaguar was only released in the two test markets of New York City and San Francisco in 1993, and only four games were avail...

I forget the context, but I was asked fairly recently about XCOM -likes. That is to say, tactical RPGs that have a focus on cover and stealth and careful judgment as integral mechanics for survival, and a generally higher difficulty all-around so as to make those features more a logical inclusion (otherwise you could just "go loud" for every battle and neglect them). I've personally never been...

Before defining the boundaries of this blog series, we need to answer an important question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Huh? When looking into the history of the 3DO, I encountered a reference to The 3DO Company's CEO Trip Hawkins' thoughts on the new Atari console before its launch in 1993. He was initially worried about...

Something I planned to do in the new year once my Game Pass had expired was to revisit a bunch of games I'd previously disqualified for having specs too high for what was, and let's be kind here, a distressed piece of cardboard someone had drawn a crude facsimile of a laptop onto with that someone being me. The original Yooka-Laylee ran just fine on that laptop but its 2019 sequel not so much,...

Hey! I know I haven't been writing here all that much over the last year, but I am going to make an attempt to do so more often. And one way of doing that is (and surely announcing this won't bite me in the rear) a new "feature" I came up with on the fly, called "Moosey's (Not So?) Hidden Gems," where I'll try to highlight games that I quite like, but probably aren't as well known as I feel lik...

It is a little surreal, looking at where the Mega Archive is presently at in Sega Genesis/Mega Drive history and realizing it was almost exactly thirty years ago to the day that many of these games debuted. Not to go on a spiel about walking three miles in the snow uphill both ways to get to school and back, possibly because my diplodocus was in the shop, but it does highlight how video games h...

Note: The following article contains major spoilers for Pok é mon Red, Blue, and Yellow versions, Pok é mon: Let's Go, Pikachu, and Pok é mon: Let's Go, Eevee. There are not a lot of series you could say that for. Pokémon: Let's...

The Epic Game Store had a characteristically generous giveaway period over the holidays and, wouldn't you know it, one of those games was a well-regarded explormer named F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch . I'm glad I skipped the resolutions this New Year's, because I'm very much a creature of habit. Speaking of creatures, I'm not sure where this trend started of putting cute animal anthro charac...
