Not terribly certain what's going on here, but I stumbled upon this while browsing Amazon today. Since they have listings for both the original and this new, less suggestive box art I'm wondering if maybe they wanted to tone it down for retail stores. I guess since Amazon has both up you can still get the original too.
Catherine
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Feb 17, 2011
The first game developed by Atlus for the PS3/Xbox 360. Made by the Persona Team, The game is an "adult oriented" action-adventure/horror game with puzzle platforming stages.
Catherine features alternative, SFW box art for NA release?
I guess they're trying very hard to appeal to ratings' boards. Doesn't getting an "M" rating make it very difficult for certain games to sell compared with others?
" I guess they're trying very hard to appeal to ratings' boards. Doesn't getting an "M" rating make it very difficult for certain games to sell compared with others? "As far as I know, Catherine didn't even get the equivalent of an M in Japan. It got a CERO C, which means 15+...it's basically our T for Teen. If it gets an M here it'll be because of America's poor attitudes towards sexuality in the media.
appealing them for what? of course it's going to get M why wouldn't it" I guess they're trying very hard to appeal to ratings' boards. Doesn't getting an "M" rating make it very difficult for certain games to sell compared with others? "
different box art is not going to make a difference

"As far as I know, Catherine didn't even get the equivalent of an M in Japan"Now I'm wondering if the localization team for Catherine is being extra careful about how they're going about translating it. I don't think it's definite that Catherine is getting an M rating, but nevertheless I still think there's a good chance. America isn't very liberal when it comes to matters of sex in video games.
@benjaebe said:Oh it'll probably get an M. Hell, Persona 4 got an M here even though it was rated CERO B in Japan - ages 12+."As far as I know, Catherine didn't even get the equivalent of an M in Japan"Now I'm wondering if the localization team for Catherine is being extra careful about how they're going about translating it. I don't like the boxart that much, but this is kind of lame. Oh well, if it gets them more sales...I'm cool with it. I was originally expecting this anyway.
If you like the original box that much, online retailers carry it with the NA version. Everyone wins.
"Especially since it highlights her suspiciously white tongue. "I'm pretty sure we call those teeth:P

" They're still pretty nice lookin covers. "Ya think? I personally would have preferred if they got someone good at graphic design to make a new one if they weren't bothering with the full art....I don't like the way it looks now.

Which is ridiculous. There is nothing in Persona 4 that warrants an M rating.

" I miss the T&A.They're still there! You can buy both versions. I'm guessing retail will only have this one, though. "
Relax, guys, this is an alternate, not a replacement:
In addition to the existing North American covers for Catherine on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, there will also be modified designs that appear in select markets. The vast majority of copies available at launch will feature the cover we originally unveiled, essentially the Japanese cover of the game. A small percentage of copies, however, will feature a cover that is more considerate of certain retailers' broader customer demographic. Fans need not worry; Catherine's cover art is NOT being altered for North America. There is just an extra option being made available for more sensitive shoppers.
" I guess they're trying very hard to appeal to ratings' boards. Doesn't getting an "M" rating make it very difficult for certain games to sell compared with others? "Not really, considering nearly every shooter ever is an M, and look at the top selling games.

Also let's not forget Miss Kashiwagi inviting a bunch of under aged kids to sleep with her at the Amagi Inn.
Thinking I'll get the SFW box, just to avoid the shit I'd get from my friends because of the original one.
" Thinking I'll get the SFW box, just to avoid the shit I'd get from my friends because of the original one. "live free! Don't crumble to social pressures! Get a game with origional cover with pride~! cause either way when they see you in bed with cathy your gunna get funny looks regardless. lol
Just in case there are people that still think this is a thing to get upset about, Siliconera was able to confirm with both Nich Maragos and Aram Jabbari (Atlus employees) that this is just an alternate option for certain retailers. The original boxes are still very easy to buy.
