Overview
Borderlands 3 is a sci-fi fantasy open-world first-person role-playing shooter developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games for the PlayStation 4 (Platform), Xbox One (Platform), and PC (Platform) on September 13, 2019, with a Mac (Platform) release on October 30, 2019 and a Stadia release on December 17, 2019.
The third main installment of the Borderlands (Franchise) series, Borderlands 3 continues the story with a new team of Vault Hunters as they travel throughout the galaxy in search for Vaults while preventing the crazed cult Children of the Vault and its Siren leaders (the Calypso Twins, Tyreen and Troy) from harnessing the Vaults' powers.
While much of the gameplay remains the same as in the series' prior entries, it includes various new and updated gameplay mechanics, including new movement options (such as mantling and knee-sliding), multiple Action Skills to choose from per class, updated gear generation and elemental types, alternate firing modes, and a new optional co-operative mode (as opposed to the standard "coopetition mode") with each player having their own loot instance and level scaling.
The PC version was originally exclusive to the Epic Games Store (Concept), and was later released on Steam (Concept) on March 13, 2020. An enhanced version, known as Borderlands 3: Next-Level Edition (for the base game) and Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition (for the updated bundle), was released for the Xbox Series X|S on November 10, 2020 and the PlayStation 5 (Platform) on November 12, 2020. The Ultimate Edition was later released for the Nintendo Switch (Platform) on October 6, 2023.
