Overview

Blaster Master 2 is a Genesis action game featuring both side-scrolling and top-down shooter sections and the sequel to Sunsoft's Blaster Master (Game) for the NES. Due to the original selling well overseas though less so in Japan Sunsoft commissioned a western studio, Software Creations from the UK (later briefly known as Acclaim Studios Manchester), to create a sequel. Plans to release it in Europe and Japan fell through, leaving it to be exclusive to the North American market. Likewise, there were reports of a SNES version in development that never saw a release. The game sees series protagonist Jason Frudnick once again board his adaptable tank S.O.P.H.I.A. to defeat a new wave of invaders. As with the first game, Jason can leave S.O.P.H.I.A. while exploring to reach areas the tank cannot enter, though he's much more vulnerable on-foot. Other areas are played via an overhead perspective.
