Apple Arcade was announced in March 2019 and released on September 19, 2019 as part of iOS 13. The service allows users to download and play Apple Arcade titles with a monthly fee. Family Sharing can be enabled, allowing up to six people the subscriber designates as Family to share the subscription.

Apple Arcade games do not contain ads or microtransactions, and progress carries over between Apple devices. In addition, iOS 13 also added the ability to play Apple Arcade and other App Store games with DualShock 4 and Xbox One controllers.

At launch, Apple Arcade only appeared on iPhones, with iPad, Apple TV, and Mac support coming later.
