Overview

Alshark is a turn-based RPG developed and published by Right Stuff originally for the NEC PC-9801 and Sharp X68000 in 1991. It would later see an enhanced CD version in 1993 with voice clips, CD music, and an animated intro that was ported to the FM Towns, the Mega-CD, and the PC Engine CD-ROM with the latter two ports having been developed by CRC Research Institute and Ocarina System respectively. The story of the game sees Shion and Shoko, two teens from the town of Kosma on the planet Hom, investigate a meteorite that fell close to their home. This eventually embroils them in a war taking place in outer space, and after their parents go missing they recruit various companions from Hom to help them search. The game is notable for switching gameplay modes: when exploring on-foot the party fights enemies in a turn-based RPG format, though while travelling through space combat instead takes on a top-down shooter format.
