Sylvarant is the first map featured in Tales of Symphonia. The world is the home for five main characters at the beginning of the game: Lloyd, Genis, Raine, Kratos, and Collette. The game begins in this world until the group leaves for Tet'thealla in order to save Collette. The group would only later return when it becomes necessary to find the elemental spirits of Sylvarant.
At the beginning of the the game, Sylvarant is in a state of decay, due to the depleting loss of mana. In order to restore prosperity, the Chosen of Mana must undertake a journey to regenerate Sylvarant by venturing to the Tower of Salvation, a tower that only appears when the journey of world regeneration begins. The Chosen of Mana happens to be Collette. The group later learns that there exists another world that would be adversely effected if they were to complete the regeneration journey. They then decide to find out how to stop the endless cycle by fusing the two worlds together.
