Geena Davis is in that new Exorcist show. It's a surprisingly good show and she's great in it. Video games.

It's weird they are saying that the new Zelda performs badly on the Switch compared to the Wii U when Digital Foundry have been saying that the game ,on Switch, is at a locked 30 fps where the drops are the exception not the rule. I'd rather trust them tbh.

I have to agree with Dan on the game lineup for the Switch. Nintendo have just spread it out from launch, instead focusing on the first year after launch. Look at the Wii U, decent launch lineup and then nothing for 9 months. The first 9 months of the Switch have plenty of first party games, I believe 8 major titles (Zelda, 1-2 Switch, Mario Kart, Arms, Splatoon, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario, Xenoblade) currently announced for that time as compared to the Wii U's whopping 2(NSMBU, Nintendo Land). I don't see how they could have had a better early lineup after day 1. Not to say I'm defending the whole thing, I have the same concerns about online and the prices of accessories, but I think the software looks great.

We need more of Vinny half recalling movies, and people have to try to figure out what movie he's thinking of, since it's damn near impossible. Wait, Kevin Costner wasn't in Birdman, Michael Keaton was. That part was confusing the heck out of me. That was kind of the whole life imitating art motif that movie was going for. And to get extra meta, bringing Harvey Dent from Batman into the mix, Keaton went from the superhero to the villain, as per that famous Harvey Dent line.

Also the switch event killed any hype I had for the system. So I guess it'll be another 5-maybe never years until I go back to consoles, as for now, emulators it is.

I'm with Dan on the weird surprise at what Nintendo Switch launches with. I mean, I'd like more cool-looking new games, too, but to act like its a shock that Nintendo did what it did....

Also, don't you dare hate on Field of Dreams. Its earnest and corny as a motherfucker, but I'd rather watch it over any cynical Tarantino pastiche any day of the week.

I always used to wait for Nintendo to fill in the lineup over several years before I bought their consoles near the end of their lives, but Wii U was the first time I just couldn't be bothered even though I know it has a few amazing games.

I hope the Switch pulls me back in this time. The terrible launch is unsurprising but disappointing and the hardware/accessories themselves doesn't seem as great as I first thought so expectations are low at the moment.

The spirit of the "eat a hat" bet is to eat something you should not, or would not like to eat. Health being considered here, it should at least be an edible hat composed of food that Dan doesn't like to eat to keep to the spirit of the bet.

Alternatively, it could be also a LOT of food to make it at the very least uncomfortable.

A combination of the two options could be a big fish and mushroom pizza hat.

Otherwise it's more like an excuse for a nice treat.

"It would be better if the Switch had a better launch lineup."

Dan - "It's not SURPRISING that the Switch doesn't have a better launch lineup so nobody should see that as a problem."

Come on now @danryckert

Also 3 big nintendo games in one year wasn't satisfying to most people with the Wii U, why would seeing months in between releases be ok all over again?

In 2013 the Wii U had Pikmin, 3D World, Windwaker HD, and NES Remix. 2014 saw Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 1/2, Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, and Hyrule Warriors. Nintendo has to do better. Not the same, not worse, better than the Wii U. 3 big new games over 9 months while missing a bunch of big third party titles is worth pointing out. Surprising or not.

As an expert on Canadian cold weather wear it's called a toque and it's pronounced more like tooke. It is a French word. Traditional toques have a pom-pom on top and roll up at the bottom. They should be large enough to cover your ears and cover a large part of your head.

I live in a city where the temperature regularly hits -40 (at that temp both C and F are pretty similar)in winter. If you are walking around outside for any amount of time you pretty much need to own one.

Propeller beanies are called "propeller beanies" because they are beanies with a propeller. Standard beanies make your head look bean-like due to them having no brim.

@shadow961: You know what the Wii U had in its first 9 months? New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land for 8 months, followed by Pikmin 3 at the very end of that timeframe. Also Zombi U and Lego City if we want to include third party exclusives. While launch day itself is a little dry, the first 9 months of the Switch is amazing in comparison, 8 big first party games lined up. The Xbox One had four big exclusives (Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Ryse, Titanfall), the PS4 had three(Knack, Killzone, Infamous). For those two there weren't even that many big multiplatform third party games, just Thief and Wolfenstein I think.

The Switch's lineup seems damn solid for a first year. There's plenty to criticise, but I think the games look good. We should focus the discussion of things to improve on towards the system level features.

A whole lot of mental gymnastics Dan going through to excuse Nintendo for poor decisions. If any other company did what Nintendo did, it'd be met with the proper kind of cynicism it deserves. We all like Nintendo games but it doesn't excuse them for making bone-headed decisions on the hardware and service level.

You can love Zelda and Mario and still be extremely critical of Nintendo! Expectations are not an excuse for shoddy service or hardware. Mediocrity is not something that should be normalized when it's a product and it's unfortunate that it is among the enthusiast press.
