Quick Look: Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 has a Metacritic in the 50s, is the next instalment in a generally derided franchise, and is actually kinda broken.

Why are so many people pissed off that Dan doesn't like it?

@supersambo: I don't think it's that he doesn't like it, just how he's expressing that dislike. It's pretty grating, for me at least, whenever he does that voice (and has the attitude). Part of the reason I only got five minutes in to the Drawn to Death QL. Any time he does it on the Beastcast I want throw my phone out the window so I don't have to listen anymore.

This game seems good, i don't know, used to be a time when there were no games based around being a Sniper, there has always been a polish to the Ghost Warrior series but with a feeling of budget throughout, this is their largest game to date and seems to play well. It's definately not a Dan game :P, Sniper Elite's x-ray stuff gets people in for the same reason as MK Fatalities get people into that game, but without it Ghost Warrior still has the satisfaction of covert sniping.

I think the argument is that a 25 minute video of Dan vehemently complaining about a video game is not entertaining when the gameplay in the video doesn't seem to demonstrate anything obviously wrong with the game. This is compounded with what seems like a fair amount of user error (like not realizing how to use the sniper scope for his first 2 shots, or the complaint about melee kills that worked fine in the video), which makes Dan's superior attitude come off as unearned.

I'm reminded about how Jeff says they play a lot of games that span the spectrum of quality, but many/most of them don't lend themselves to the Quick Look format because they wouldn't be engaging to watch and they wouldn't give the hosts much to talk about. I feel like this game falls into that camp, where it's not worth purchasing for $60, but it also isn't laughably bad or so over-the-top that watching it is a spectacle to witness.

It's already known that this game isn't great, but it still would have been awesome to see some sniping in the sniping game

I always assumed Sniper Elite and Sniper Ghost Warrior were from the same franchise/publisher, similar to Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon.

IDK, this game looks alright. Sounds like it has a lot of bugs though so Ill probably wait for it to get super cheap. Dan is really bad at it though

Couldn't agree more with the meh feeling dan has in this day and age "well its not broken and nothing offensive and it hits all the boxes on this game's kinda gameplay...so its a decent 7/10" doesnt cut it. I commend the effort of the company and think their is a lot here. I particularly like stealth games and the attention to detail this game has made. I think they chased other games too much for this entry thou. Its not that it is horrendous. It has nice scope details and great atmosphere. X ray shots couldnt be done since thats a copyright issue i think or something close but they did the best they could. Its definitely from a company that is lower budget if you played the other game demos. Sadly the story seems less nuanced than the other games. They seem to be following the DUDEBRO crowd with how the men talk which always comes off fake and insincere when emulated in comparison to real life where even then it can be cringe worthy. Dan wasnt too down on it thou given how the comments make it seem especially since no one on giantbomb seems to like hard stealth games from what i heard...i could be wrong thou. Anyway meta-critic has it at around 5/10 and the way dan speaks of it his review would be 2/5 which this game seems like. I mean mass effect A got 2/5 so the the bar has definitely risen. Honestly 10 years ago when other better games were not around this would get 3.5/5 or so and MEA would get 4.5/5. I still see hope for budget studios but they need a good hook to take them over mediocrity which they should do better given the small studio and more creative freedom with less exes changing stuff to make it samey and marketable. This title is mediocre and trite when sniper elite 3 exist and is in the same budget studio wheel house. I commend their work but hope the employees get a chance to excel.

The lack of the colon made me think this was about a ghost sniper coming to haunt other people.

I see your point. It reminds me of how harsh people are for lower budget studios getting off the ground in 2017. Ubisoft, Rockstar, EA, etc all had small beginnings and were lucky enough that they did not have social media to contend to with a pool of people dissecting each of their games for eternity on forums, blogs, and reviews. Im exaggerating of course but these small studios have it tough since not every first few games will knock it out of the park in comparison to AAA games. Budget really does make the game. Same reason i get angry when i hear comparisons of Mass effect A to Witcher 3 when the witcher 3 had tons of subsidies and about twice the budget and more time and source material to work off of. On the other hand with so much examples of how to make a good game it should not be too hard to make the games well these days. Im really on the fence but dan sums it up well as a critic who needs to tell it like it is regardless of circumstances. There are just too many great alternatives to recommend this game. If it had a hook maybe but as of now no.

I see Dan brought his B game.

It might just be the more fun and laid back atmosphere of GBEast quicklooks. Kind of hard not to quickly give short, fast reactions (which in this case are negative) you're likely coming up with on the fly when the conversation and screwing around in-game really keeps you going moving fast and likely distracted.

I can't be the only one who's completely burned out on these Ubisoft type open world games with scarce forgettable narrative and checklist gameplay loop with a side of map icon vomit, right?

Seems like i will skip this QL, its just a side of Dan i really don't care for. Bummer.

The balaclava conversation reminds me of this time a friend of mine sent a message to our gaming group asking what some dessert he'd had with one of our other friends was. We jokingly told him it was called balaclava. A few minutes later he sent us a message that said, "you guys just made me look like a complete idiot." Turns out he was on a date and had ordered balaclava.

This seems like a perfectly generic video game.

the part where dan was messing up the shot because he was looking at the wrong dot was almost like they were purposely recording an intro for the best of videos

I don't think every quicklook should be super positive and totally happy the whole time so I support this video.

There was a distinct lack of sniping in this QL and a lot of Dan complaining and running straight at enemies with an assault rifle out.

This game doesn't look nearly as bad as how Dan is it making it out to be. The dialog seems pretty rough, but the gameplay doesn't look too bad. May be worth it on sale.

You know...I kind of really want to play this. I could go for a good budget shooter. After I finish the other 5 games I'm playing, though.

This seems generic, but not necessarily much worse than a game like Wildlands.

Sure, it's probably not better than the other sniper game, but to say that 'no one should play this' seems a bit harsh. Especially when nothing truly terrible has been seen in the quicklook. And it's not like you can't play 2 games in the same genre.
