@navster15: But why do that when you can just ignore their actual arguments and instead post a video by some random youtuber who also completely ignores the actual arguments? Better to show up, say you haven't learned anything about what's going on and no one can make you, and belittle everyone who is actually impacted by JK's actions.

It's wild that people still think "Oh you don't like something? Well rather than try to make me feel bad about my singular purchasing decision, why aren't you dedicating your whole existence to protesting 24/7 on all fronts!" We aren't children here. Someone can criticize your purchasing choice without having to fulfill some prerequisite of protest.

That video that was shared earlier presupposes that the people who criticize people buying Hogwarts Legacy are all phonies who don't actually care about JK and her stances because if they did, why aren't they doing a bunch of other things that don't involve talking to you? First off, most of the people who I know who feel strongly that Harry Potter stuff should be boycotted, do in fact boycott Harry Potter licensed content in all its forms. The video just implies that the person talking about a boycott of Hogwarts Legacy is a fair weather idiot (you can tell that the video is disingenuous because it basically has the character backing the boycott shut up for 3 minutes of its runtime as they are endlessly owned by the "reasonable buyer". It's just dunking on a straw man). Just because you don't actively see people protesting and boycotting this very second, doesn't mean they didn't happen or won't happen. People of good faith don't need to protest all Harry Potter things at all times to earn the right to tell you that you buying this game is shitty.

Secondly, choosing to try to make a small impact on a game boycott can mean something even if it doesn't fix anything. As @sethmode said, a single person being vegetarian doesn't break the meat industry, but it can mean something to them and it can influence other people to question their meat consumption. This is a long-term fight and small actions add up over time. Making this universe and its properties uncool is the way you actually take it down in the long term and protests like a game boycott accompanied by a big stink can help make the property less prevalent over time.

People sure have a lot of ways to write "I like my thing and you shouldn't think less of me for liking it. I know you're explaining why the thing I like is bad, but I'm not gonna listen to you and also whatabout yada yada yada." Like you can listen to the trans people in your life who are telling you why playing or supporting this game in any way is hurtful to them, or you can try to come up with your justification for why your special workaround is morally fine. But don't be surprised when people treat you like you're a jerk. Cause you are.

I don't know what to tell folks. Sonic games range from bad to okay. The last universally loved Sonic game was released almost 30 years ago. What should the stance be with a series that basically churns out 4.0-7.0 games every few years with art and story reboots almost every time? The response to Frontiers seems to be "they almost made it so you can control Sonic in a 3D space." We're 20 years into 3D sonic games and he's barely been controllable for almost that entire time.

If this thread is going to be a back and forth of users sniping at each other, I'm going to lock it. Please keep the focus on the shitty situation that prompted this thread.

I enjoyed this album, but boy is it repetitive. If all you've heard of The Pleasure Principle is Cars, you really just need to ask yourself if you want to hear Cars for an hour with slightly different synth chords per song. The sound really is that consistent throughout. That being said, this album has a very iconic sound and manages to pull off the futuristic synth sound as well or better than anything I've heard. This is an album you might want to have on in the background of your 80s throwback party, but I don't know that you necessarily want to give it full attention from front to back.

I 100% understand people unsubscribing and stepping away from GB. I hate the recent layoffs and the slow attrition of staff members who made this site what it is. At this point the loss of staff is beyond alarming and I don't know how the remaining folks are going to handle their increased workloads. The site was finally clicking and now two rocks of the site are gone for seemingly no reason. Furthermore, the health care ramifications for Jason are fucking despicable and he needs whatever support we can muster.

All that being said, I'm staying here until the end. At this point I've been a GB community member for over half of my life. This site and its community have been rocks in my day to day existence in ways small and large. I've spent too much time trying to make this community and site a fun and welcoming place. I can't step away from all that. It's too special and too precious to me. All of you are.

Have you played Tales From Off-Peak City? It's a pretty cool follow-up to Off-Peak and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
