Persona 6 doesn't have to outsell FFXVI for you to talk about how and why Persona is better. Just say that. You don't need this (extremely unlikely) hypothetical sales scenario to validate what you feel.

It's a bizarre choice, presented bizarrely, for sure. The game isn't lacking proper onboarding or whatever their stated rationale is, it's lacking content.

I don't know if I'm the only person who would buy a new Baten Kaitos. But it's got to be a pretty exclusive club.

I suppose it makes sense. In 2019, the powers that be must've thought Anthem's rehab was a necessary step to salvage Bioware's reputation. Now Bioware has a shiny new Mass Effect Trilogy remaster on the way to remind people of the fuzzy feelings that name used to inspire, and a new Dragon Age game on the way to act as proof of concept that Bioware can, presumably, still make good games. They don't need to pretend Anthem matters to the company anymore.

@zoofame: Though I think chances of future GOTYs being structured in this way is very slim, I think these are solid ground rules. To point #1 specifically, something I like to consider is that constructing an argument is a rare skill not everyone has. Austin could pull off a filibuster because he came from an academic background. He came in with a thesis statement and developed supporting points to buttress that thesis. To be clear, I don't think other people are dumb for not doing this. It's a rare skill! But the lack of, I don't know, critical rigor in these talks can be grating at times. More often, what you get is people stubbornly digging their heels in on their pick, and inflating minor issues from other games to undermine someone else's pick.

Personally, I like all the ancillary "awards" like Best Soundtrack and Best Styyyyyle, and have been skimming or skipping the main event GOTY episodes for years. I hope in the future, they can structure GOTY discussions around all the blessings the year brought, stuff they enjoyed or thought was funny, or broader emerging trends in the industry.

There are several ways to do it well. Unfortunately they already burned one of them with Andromeda, such that I don’t think they will be touching that concept ever again. To me, the clearest way forward is a sequel to the Destroy ending of ME3, about whatever huge, chaotic realignment of power happens after the Reapers upended the galactic chess board. My personal hope is that BioWare stays away from Reapers, Architects or other kinds of ancient technology plotlines and keeps it grounded in social and political interactions between groups. They already did the big eldritch baddie plot twice in this franchise, they absolutely cannot pull it out for a third.

Welp. After a hot and heavy week or two, I've now not touched the game for a week.

Once you're done exploring, playing this game feels slightly more onerous than the typical gatcha game. I think that's because most gatchas are stage-based and menu-based, so if I want to do my mindless daily grind activity, I just tap the screen two or three times and I'm in combat. Here I often have to run a minute or two to the grind, which registers to me as filler. That's double true for gathering ascension mats. Back during the honeymoon period, I remember wishing dearly for more resin so I could run more dungeons and stuff. Now the idea of running a mat dungeon more than once or twice a day is unthinkable.

I dunno, I think the core gameplay is solid, but paradoxically the full-featured nature of Genshin is what's pushing me away right now. I might be back when there's new land to explore.

Really enjoying this free co-op mode. Got my Samurai and Hunter swole as fuck. Now I'm waiting for my bro to gear up so we can take on those nightmare story missions. I don't think I'll do the raid unless the GB community puts something together, I did my time in Destiny 2. But overall, I am truly impressed with this. It's such a joy to play this game, not run into weird technical glitches, and just unlock new looks by completing tasks in the game. At no point has the game hit me up for cash or anything like that.

I wish her the best, and am looking forward to seeing where she lands.

I mean, Abby’s at the very start of her professional career! There’s not a ton of room, from my outside POV, to advance in the GB organization, so I always figured she’d move on within 5 years. Curious about what’s going on re: the CBS sale to spark her leaving now though.

Enjoying it so far. I've found that I possess the ability to just take gatcha games as they come, so I'm not overly bothered by what I freely admit are very low 5* rates. Right now I'm maining Razor, who just straight-up murders fools when he combos with Xiangling's fire.

Very curious to see how this game develops. And when I can play it on Switch (and if I'll get a decent framerate there). My new phone can handle it easy enough, but the touch controls, while fine, aren't how I want to play this game long-term. I sure won't be playing any archer characters that way, no sirree.
