I'm glad they turned the film grain off, it really did hurt the video quality.
Also - and I really DO love the film grain in this series - the effect looks terrible on a 4k TV for some reason. I played the games many times, but as soon as I started up ME1 on a new TV, I had to switch it off, it's just way more pronounced. And I do have my TV calibrated and have all the post-processing off in the TV settings. Playing on One X via backwards compatibility by the way, so the game obviously still runs in 1080p.
@pickassoreborn: Me either, I'm assuming it was different on console
Correct, on console you are just presented with the face buttons, which light up and you need to press them in time, depending on the difficulty of the decryption. It's way simpler on consoles.
@quipido: It wasn't random. The context was deriding games of that era and it was one among many comments made stating this game's writing is indicative of the overall quality of 90s / classic adventure game writing, and it's not.
There's like four other quotes pertaining to this in the video. Including one right at the end.
Ok then, I haven't actually watched the video yet, which is my fault. Sorry about that.
I still think the crew knows better than to think all adventure games were this, at the time.
How about we don't use this obviously middling example of an adventure game to collectively dismiss all the genre classics? Like any other period of gaming some games were great, most were not.
This game's mediocrity doesn't make Day Of The Tentacle, Sam & Max or Beneath A Steal Sky any less exceptional.
How about we don't take a random statement, which is clearly focused on a game currently being played, and make it sound like a blanket policy of the crew?
Didn't expect backlash in the comments as I watched this week's UPF... Virtually every guest promotes their work to some extent, be it The Foo Show, NoClip, Cloth Map or Twitch. The only difference, y'all happen to be more interested in those things.
You are right and all of those bother me, when they are inserted into a PAID show. Do a free stream and I am ok with it, this was too far for me.
