@plan6:Of course. People are so partisan today though in a way that can be exploited so easily, that a seemingly obvious conclusion to ending the war with garbage public support in Afghanistan and complete pulling troops out is suspect because of a natural refusal to support anything Trump wants. You could make the same argument in reverse 8 years ago, or 20 when Bush started it, but its out of control right now. The news / war machine that props up the incredibly flimsy recurring russian bounties / trump cemetery stories in response to the pullout are exhausting, transparent, and embarrassing to watch. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, just give him the W.
@gundato: The idea that the military doesn't have the right to advertise is interesting, and seems to run counter to the idea of a voluntary military. I'd suspect that the obvious repercussion is the eventual need for a draft again, or some sort of mandatory service. Would people be more happy with that? - edit, reread your post and it doesn't seem like you're arguing against military advertising, but the way this thread reads it seems like a good deal of people are against it, so i'll leave this here.
I wonder how much it bothers folks in this thread to cite the Afghanistan war as the reason they are against this, and then have to look at a chart of the troop numbers by president, and then consider the primary opposition to removing troops entirely.
Er - glad the duders/site are doing well enough to blow that much money! Hope they got one at an estate sale or something, those prices are wild, but covid is doing wonders for their stock.
I just started playing this a few days ago, and I've only played the first couple hours, but yea this game felt like stepping into an bizarre alternate dimension where negative perception of the police mostly ends with inferring cops are merely incompetent, so repairing their weird spy towers was intended to be eye rolling, not horrifying. It probably should have been though, egregious overuse of police power isn't a concern that started in May.
The next couple years will be interesting - games take a long time to get made. With polls like this coming out, I wonder how many game dev studios will greenlight the hot takes most younger people expect them to be obvious to include in games. That said, there is obviously enough of an outcry for change for there to be less tone deaf painting of police with a broad brush of always being just the "good guys" (haven't finished the game but per OP that sounds like the way it goes).
I would say there's probably going to be a lot of opportunity for more interesting science fiction style police stories to be told now - there has truly never been a better time for Mass Effect Citadel Cop Stories.
