There are certain parts of this story that are fantastic, and certain characters that are sort of just used to clumsily wrap up story beats like Udina, but this game is still real good. Thane's last bit in particular is a something I forgot about, what a great character. I felt like his writing "That assassin should be embarassed" is a sort of shot at the writing for Kai Leng, who is pretty much a GI Joe villian.

Oh man, is this the one where Alex realizes the guns in ME3 are *wild*?

Holy shit this game is good. People in the early 2010s were fucking idiots to complain about this.

@gkhan: Good advice, but on this difficulty not only could Alex ignore every other gun he picks up negating the shooting range, he could totally ignore the upgrade system for whatever weapon he likes the most. Unless he ups the difficulty its probably pointless since I think he's just trying to skip through the combat and see the story.

Its interesting to see how other people play these games, Alex runs through the room picking up everything while triggering, then ignoring every bit of environment's visual and audio storytelling, then is confused when he hears "she is dead". Cerberus dudes accidentally killing someone and trying to figure out who it was, Cerberus dudes trying to coax the biotic kid to drop his shield... Nothing wrong with playing like that, these are interesting but aren't core story points, but it really drives home how incredibly difficult it is to do environmental storytelling without *forcing* unskippable cutscenes.

Arrrrrggghhhhhhh, after 1, 2 and now 3 I just can't with how Alex plays. Sigh, love the entertainment...but his playstyle is soo sloppy?

-Use powers with a curve don't slam them right into the walks

-run more!

-Use the dodge roll!

-Use your ally powers!

-COMBINE POWERS ALREADY!

I know it won't make a difference but ugh!

I think this is why you have to play me3 on vanguard at least once before the combat really starts to make sense. Its a fantastic game on a the higher difficulties that really require all of the things you called out, and its incredibly fun. On the lower difficulties you don't need to use any powers, grenades, etc, and it's fairly boring. I'll be pretty surprised if Alex dies at all this run, other than to a banshee.

*edit* so I don't sound elitist or whatever about difficulty, I'd only ever really encourage playing on a higher difficulty on this game in particular. It exposes something in the combat that you never, ever see otherwise. The battles have time to flesh themselves out, you get a chance to really find out what weapons and powers and combos you like because they're *all* very different, and you have to mix it up depending on the type of enemy, and its all consequently rewarding.
