I'm really not sure. I like the thought of a more localized situation and a smaller scale mystery thing to focus on. But I also don't mind if they go for a bombastic "oh shit time to save the galaxy" again. Execution is more important to me so as long as they execute well I don't mind what scale we're looking at.

Main thing I didn't like about Andromeda was dropping almost everything interesting about the setting to try to reboot it but largely do nothing with it in the end. Being back in the milky way hopefully means we'll get to see more of the political climate and status of the races as they are now.

It'd be really cool if they did s dragon age style of create a character. I just hope the character creator is more robust than the old ones. Still struggle to make a decent looking character that isn't the default Shepard.

@sweep: Was pretty crazy seeing the amount of people trying to say that he wouldn't like it because he didn't like the Witcher. A cyberpunk fps action rpg open world is practically serving it up on a platter to Jeff. Or it should be anyway, if done right.

We'll be doing a video call with my family that lives out of state to avoid lengthy travel across states, but may see my wife's family that lives in the same city as us. Think the plan there is to stay distanced but see each other in person, but we'll see.

I like previous games they've made but don't currently trust the quality of their products on release or their ability to manage the release of said games.

Kinda feel like loot based games are the genre of the generation this time around. A lot of companies wanted to and still want to get their hands in the pot of multicolored loot drop play forever and buy cosmetics games. I guess in most cases you could consider them to be rpgs.

Oof. Initial impression of Patrick's tweet is that it still continues to look like they're just passing the blame to Sony and Microsoft if they don't refund. Extremely limited time window around a holiday period, no commitment to what that help may be, and little to no comment beyond that does not seem like the appropriate way to go about this. What are they actually doing to help people who can't get past particularly Sony's strict refund policy would be nice to see.

Weird choices. Honestly I wish Nintendo would stop focusing solely on the NES and SNES catalog. What I wouldn't give to play things like Golden Sun on the switch among many others.

@lilnatureboyx: They paid for the cost of development already and are just racking up sales beyond that. If they delayed they wouldn't have the rush of holiday buyers and they'd be pushing back their return on investment. Who knows what lockdown status will be next year, and while it sucks to say, people being stuck at home drives game sales. Next year will see more progress on next gen games hopefully but there's very little major contenders releasing right now, so the iron is pretty hot to strike right now with a big game that's been marketed literally everywhere.

Looking at the negative, I'd be willing to bet that most people won't refund because people are lazy or don't even know they should be refunding right now (hello everyone opening this game on Christmas). They took a reputation hit, but they still have a legion of fans praising them for supporting their games post launch so they're taking a calculated risk that they will win out over that anger.

Part of me can't help but be cynical and assume this was part of a calculated choice by the higher ups before backlash even happened. "Put it out on console, we'll make up for the hit by patching it and if we have to we'll offer a refund. We"ll still profit while reducing damage to our image" or whatever. I don't know. At this point in my life I've been in too many corporate meetings to not see a plan happening that weighed profit vs. damage control behind the scenes.

The non-cynical side of me is glad to see them publicly address the issue. I don't mean that as "oh things are better now" because to me this is the bare minimum. This is what should be done and not necessarily anything that makes me feel better about buying their games in the future. I want to see that they learned their lesson and won't try to screw the consumer with shady practices on their next game. But that'll be quite a few years out from now.

Keep in mind that December 21st does jack shit for people getting this as a Christmas gift. So they're still abusing the holiday sale period. Which is what they wanted to release this on consoles this holiday for. So in the end they still get what they want without having to change their plan much.
