You're not planning things out enough. Just because you aren't stealth killing things doesn't mean not stealthing can be done by running in with no thought behind it. You need to start by scanning enemies until you understand what individual parts of them are causing you trouble and what a robot's elemental weaknesses are.

Getting shot a lot? Well, the enemy probably has a cannon you can knock off with tear damage. Enemy breathing a bunch of fire? It's probably got some part of it you can catch on fire and blow up.

Honestly, just invest in tear arrows and a blast sling. I never used traps or the Ropecaster for like 99% of the encounters because honestly I thought they weren't worth the time.

I don't know that "depressing" is the right word, but I couldn't stomach GTA IV because I found the thing to be so mean spirited. All GTAs have a a degree of biting satire on the modern world, but you're always kind of laughing along with them. GTA IV was different in that it was far more aggressive about it than other games in the series. A couple hours in and I was pretty much done with that game's sense of "humor."

If ZP likes being able to change characters on the fly - then he can be glad FFXII (a.k.a. the Best Final Fantasy) is on the way.

Are you sure there isn't some bullshit trick to the end of that game? Like the old classic Phoenix Down on a zombie thing? In my memory the end of FFX is pretty easy. Mount Gagazet was where I got fucked. Fucked to the moon and back! I definitely did some grinding around there. Maybe I overcompensated so hard there that I blew past the boss at the end? If you have cash on hand maybe some group healing items will help? I'll leave the real tips here to the mechanical experts I guess.

I didn't have a chance to post on your last blog actually. Wanted to say I'm pretty damn happy / surprised at what happened here. Once you fall in love with a Final Fantasy, I think it makes falling for the others much easier. It's funny, because, in your approach, there was really never any reason to think you might enjoy a FF. The entire conceit was basically built around the Endurance Run concept, which, lest we forget, is about endurance. It's not called the "Passion Run". With all that said, I have to wonder what you'll feel about FF games going forward, and if this experience with X has changed things in general for you (Or: are Final Fantasy fans fans by nature of having evolved *patience* for the series?). That said, maybe the ending of FFX crushed your soul, who knows. Curious what you think about the whole thing. As you ponder it in your mind, consider that all of FFX is actually based on Les Miserable's "I Dreamed A Dream"...

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hopes apart
As they turn your dreams to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came

And I still dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather!

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now, from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

All I can think about when I hear about Les Mis is the Key and Peele sketch:

Recent Civilizations. I played the hell out of Civ 4, and then 5-6 I keep trying and just falling off. I don't know what it is, I like strategy games, I loved the hell out of 4, but something just feels lacking. Like its too polished or something.

Maybe it's no Nemoy.

I would say depends on the game?

God of War? 1 is a forever playable game that should not be missed along side with metal gear solid 1

Assassins Creed 1? Thats a 100% skip to 2 or hell even 3

I actually just played AC1 a few weeks ago, finished AC2 this weekend, and would advise against skipping them. If you're interested in the story of the series, you should play the first games. It's interesting to look back 10 years and see how that series started and then be able to compare it to Origins later this years. Besides, you can mainline those in 6 to 8 hrs if you decide you want to skip the side content.

Plus, those two are by far the best games in the series.

No Chrono Trigger is a massive oversight, especially if they are working with Square to get Final Fantasy III (6)

That's a good point actually, did they get FF6 on this thing or is it actually just 3?

I'll admit that when I saw FF3 on the list, this was my first thought too, because having the actual FF3 would be a totally Nintendo thing to do. They're probably also make about ten of the things, which would also be a totally Nintendo thing to do.

Trying to get through Persona 5 made me think I might be hitting this point with JRPGs. I'm not sure that's necessarily due to the age of the protagonists, though. It's more that the similar age of the characters makes a lot of JRPG stories tread over the same ground. Underneath all that style, Persona 5 is still fundamentally about broadly-drawn angsty teen characters learning the Power of Friendship.

It's just a little frustrating because there's no reason the Persona series couldn't do a game with adult protagonists who have adult hang-ups. There's no reason that couldn't work. They wouldn't even have to change the structure that much. You'd just have a work calendar rather than a school calendar and your hideout would be the bar rather than the school roof.

I believe I have made my disdain for FFX known in prior posts, but one of the major problems I have with it is how it tells its story. It has a ton of interesting directions it could go in, but the ones it shoves down the players' throats are the least interesting of those.

As you pointed out with the Jecht spheres, it takes the most interesting story threads, and then insists on hiding them in optional content or behind a ton of grinding. You either miss them entirely, or get so little of them that, like Jecht, they have no impact unless you go out of your way to look for it. In contrast, I always found the main path story the most boring, overwrought, horridly melodramatic, teen fan-fic level shlock ever committed to a page.

As to Seymour Flux, get anti-zombie stuff to protect yourself, and then hit him with poison. Amazingly, a ton of bosses in FFX aren't immune to a lot of status effects. If you hit him with poison, he'll kill himself after a few turns. You can just focus on healing yourself at that point.
