@itsjustkevinv: thanks for this. your post highlights one of the core problems this community has: resistance to change. you're self-identified as a relative newcomer, so your resistance to change has a different baseline (if any at all). the vast majority of those who post on the site, either in comments or on the forums, are oldheads who have often been here since day one. the site necessarily changes, the personalities on the site necessarily change, and they themselves necessarily change, and most of the complaints about how the site is "worse" now stem from their desire for it to be the same as it was when they liked it best, some floating point that differs for each person.
Maybe the site is purposefully changing in ways that the oldheads don't like. maybe they are actively trying to court a new audience, like kevin here. the entirety of the original audience is not going to subscribe to giant bomb forever, just as the entirety of the original staff is not going to work here forever.
What is described in the article has, so far, not been reflected in the new GB shows at all. I agree that it feels like OP is reaching in order to use this article to justify their sub cancellation as not only a matter of differing taste, but of ethics as well.
It is telling to look at the Twitter accounts of those who have worked with Steve on Minerva's Den or at Fullbright, who follow each other but do not follow Steve.
When I load this page, the YouTube video automatically starts playing while muted, and clicking the Pause button just unmutes the player. Clicking again on the Pause button pauses the player. This is the first time I've encountered this behavior. I'm on Firefox with no ad blocker, as a logged-in premium member.
I am bemoaning why GB isn't about video games anymore, in between sending the exact same email to the bombcast and beastcast every single week asking what kind of sandwich each member would keep in their pocket and why
i just put both streams on and muted one while i watched the other.
there can be more than one games coverage outlet. there are already like 3,000. nobody is in mortal combat here. nobody is looking to snuff anyone else out. nobody is punishing anyone else or trying to gang up on anyone while they're weak. what the fuck, people
honestly please just close this thread. you can have a healthy community who trusts its moderators without allowing for rampant projection and speculation about the inner lives of staff members. anyone who feels otherwise should do some self-reflection.
