Good writeup! I have about 350 games on my backlog and despite finishing a lot this year I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I'm putting my nose to the grind and trying to finish off titles I've had sitting around for 10+ years.

Calling Sonic CDs music boring though?? I'm shocked. If you didn't use the JP soundtrack, you must remedy this.

It's been a particularly bad year for comic and comic-adjacent deaths. Conroy never seemed to take his position for granted and really understood the character. No one is able to say a bad word about him either. It feels like there will always be something missing from any future Batman stuff, but his monumental library of performances will continue to inspire generations to come. RIP Dark Knight.

All my worst jobs were explicitly temporary positions. That's one thing, but it ain't worth hating most of your waking hours indefinitely! Realizing you don't gel with something is not a failure, it's valuable for the future.

A few minutes ago, I just wrapped up the final achievements. So yeah, this game rules. It took me a while to "get it" though. It's really the endless layers that does it - every few hours they unlock something that adds a whole new dimension. It's possibly the best podcast game ever and it's even under 1 gig!

I guess I don't get the point of the distinction, it's all semantic. I think from Nintendo's perspective they just make "the next Mario game." How Dan thinks 3D Land/World are somehow excluded, when they have infinitely more in common with the others than Yoshi's Island does, is a mystery.

I second Poinpy, though it's been a few months since I finished it. Yes, it has an ending... and it's one of the craziest I've seen recently. Worth sticking to if you have Netflix!

Dunkey's videos are usually some of my favorites, but I gotta agree, my eyebrows were raised right away. Primarily that's due to his pretty arrogant statement that he will only publish the very best games. I don't have experience in game development, but everything I can gather says that it's always, always more difficult than you expect. No one sets out to make a mediocre game (aside from asset flippers, but you know what I mean). It's only when real-world complications like technology, deadlines, and funding come into the picture when creatives have to scale back and compromise. If Dunkey and Leah are intent on following through with this, they are potentially on the hook for decisions about a LOT of time and money. They can't exactly back out without taking a huge hit to their reputations. While I might be biased, I don't think they would hang out to dry people who rely on their support. But I have no idea what dealing with them is like on a professional level. I generally agree with Dunkey's taste in games, but that does not make him a great businessman. We gotta somehow get NoClip in on this... it would be very informative!

Nowadays, I only use Kickstarter for extraordinarily low-risk products. I'm talking, like... a cookbook. Or a magazine. Whenever I've backed a game, even though they always appear promising, they take forever to come out and you can always see the stitches. Crowdfunding one game is risky enough, but two in one campaign? I could be proven wrong, but this seems like the first step on a journey that will end on the What Happened? YouTube series.
