this is weird to think of because I wouldn't say it's my favourite game, but last time I remember wanting to play a game all the time was MGS5, I just could not stop playing it. I would have thought Persona 5 would have been like that but I keep forgetting how much I like it then when I do get back to playing I end up playing for like 5 hours straight. Another one would be stardew valley, another one that I could not stop playing day after day non stop, I guess both that and MGS5 have the progression in common where you're waiting to unlock stuff etc.

not really video game related but ever since Vinny mentioned it during the Shemue ED I can't stop listening to 99% Invisible, one of my favourite podcasts of all time. They're once a week but don't really come out on a set day, but given the huge back catalogue it doesn't really matter in terms of wanting something to fill Wednesday.

@sagesebas:

The sending out party members thing was a weird twist that I wasn't expecting, but it quite cool, kinda reminded me of certain boss fights from darkest dungeon in a weird way. I tried sending Mona at first but the lack of healing killed me and I ended up retrying and sending Ryuji instead so I could have that sweet double heal.

(^ just some game mechanics 'spoilers' from the first dungeon)

I'm liking a lot of the new combat mechanics like the baton pass, so good for when you have a weakness to exploit but want to spread out the SP usage, and there are a lot of good QOL improvements over 4, like telling you explicitly if a social link will level up and my god the fusion by result is incredible! and being able to just choose which spells to inherit, it truly is the best time! The online features are also really cool, reminds me of the similar stuff they did in Catherine, it works as a great reminder of the things you can do when you're trying to decide how to spend your time. Really only two gripes with the game so far, I feel like I accidentally pop out of cover way too often which several times has led to being surrounded, also the new combat menus are cool as shit but just from muscle memory I keep hitting x to try and open up a menu and end up attacking.

For people who are fairly far into the game, (I'm just about starting dungeon 2) I feel like the game takes too much of your time away not really leaving enough to do social links and increase skills, is the game lax enough on that time wise or do you really need to be efficient in the time you do get (if you want to get all those levels fairly high/maxed i mean)?

Also I'm beyond thrilled that the game looks and runs great on the PS3!

Can't say the game has clicked yet, still going to stick with it to see the supposed amazing turn around after some threshold but man I do not get the praise this game is getting at all.

My main problem is that the combat is simple. You spam dodge through everything and don't even have to be in range to deliver physical attacks. I've tried Hard mode a few times, but I take way too much damage at some points.

Yeah, I have the same feeling, I played the tutorial like 5 times on hard before I gave up and and set it to normal. Taking that much damage when you're trying to figure out how the game works was not a good combo for me but I feel like now its way too easy. Even without locking on, normal is too easy and Hard you can get killed in 2-3 hits by almost every enemy and the game doesn't feel precise enough to me to warrant that.

As for performance I have, i7 2600k 16Gigs of ram and a 980 and I'm playing at 1440p (I think I am anyway) and it's been fine, got a few drops in framerate in the open world part but nothing major, the cutscenes do run at a ridiculously low frame rate though.

@azuresama: Hey, I'm down to try and make something using INK, I've used Unity a fair amount but will need to take a look at INK and how the plugin works but I can't imagine it would be too difficult. And I'm happy to try and go for a smaller more 'complete-able' project too! PM me and let me know what you're thinking of doing.

I initially was quite disappointed when I played this but it was because I couldn't find any resin, as soon as I found some and I was actually able to build stuff it became way more addictive and fun. I can imagine that the fun will sort of stop once you've built everything you can in the game up to this point but until then it seems really great.

I really like digging out little storage caves to put all my stuff in, the deformation stuff in this game really is half the fun

@sunbrozak: What are your other specs? I'm on a 980 as well but so far I have the game on the ultra preset at 1440p and haven't has any issues with framerate drops or anything. Maybe it's because I haven't moved on to the second area yet, but all the way up to the boat (not really a spoiler but in case anyone cares) it has been running great for me. Hopefully the next time I load up the game and open the door into the next section everything doesn't go to shit!

Also happy to hear Emily talking a LOT less (at least it seems that way) than Corvo was in the UPF.

As well as the 980, I've got 16 gigs of ram and a i5-4690K processor. I've tried numerous fixes and tweaks and there's still areas in the game that bring me down to the mid 40s in terms of frame rate. And that's regardless of the settings I put it at in-game. The worst area for me so far was the clockwork mansion, of all places. You'd think the level they demoed multiple times would be one that actually worked on a fairly competent rig like mine.

Edit: So I finally got tired of using a controller to play the game and looked into more options for getting the frame rate up (because playing with a mouse at ~40 frames per second is not a fun experience). I decided to bring the resolution down to 900p, and the game is managing to mostly stay at 55-60fps at medium settings. It's far from ideal, but I can deal with it until (hopefully) a fix gets patched in. I'll be playing this game more than once anyway, so I'll ideally get my 1080/60 experience eventually.

So I got to Karnaca and the framerate still pretty much holds up, there were one or two dips but other than that it was solid. Only difference between our specs is I have a i7-2500 and I'm pretty sure your 4th gen i5 is better so that can't be it. I did see some stuff about the devs saying that the PC version isn't a port so they were shocked when people started reporting bad performance. Maybe the patch they release will fix some other unforeseen problem and fix everyone's performance issues, fingers crossed!
