" @enthalpy The severs went up 5 hours ago...what the hell did they expect? "
I have no idea how a review of this deep a game goes out that fast, especially with online features. I'm just trying to give a quick and dirty translation.
" http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00013884-gran-turismo-5-test.htm Anyone here who speaks French? "
Man. I haven't read French in a long time. Their review doesn't sound that positive, but I'll definitely cop to having to look up a bunch of the review-type descriptive words. If someone has a more native grasp of French, please correct!
The verdict sounds something like "for better or worse, this is a GT game." They generally find that the series is hamstrung by a pretty strong tie to its past entries, and accordingly will probably please fans of the previous entries in the series, but not people who are not already GT fans. They are impressed as always by the fidelity of at least the premium cars and the tracksl, but the AI is still not particularly good. The online mode seemed to struggle with possible net code and server issues, but that could be because it's just launched. NASCAR is okay, carts are bad, you'll have to do more of the substandard hire-a-driver mode than you might want because of how much coin you'll need to buy cars and advance. Leveling is slow and blocks access to courses. The create-a-course tools are less than they had hoped for. Weather and day/night sound like they were welcome additions but, again, that aren't as good as the reviewers had hoped.
edit: For the record, I obviously haven't played this, nor do I have any skin in the game. I hope it's awesome. :) It sounds like the comments who suggested a quick review were right on the money, especially regarding how this review was talking about damage, but as per other posts it being a late unlockable. I also imagine that you'd probably get a pretty good idea about whet her or not this feels like GT pretty quickly. :)
