I can't find the original tweet but someone posted "If you call X 'Cross' then I'm going to assume you call the other 3 buttons 'Box' 'Pizza' and 'Roundabout'" which mildly amused me.

@shiftygism: That's a fair point and 99% of the time it's usually simple to avoid but some people will know what kind of buttons to push to elicit a reaction.

My main assumption of people's stubbornness online is one of attention seeking, they share what can be interpreted as a controversial opinion on something as a way to reel in an audience and proceed to aggravate through responses that are essentially "you are wrong".

Most likely a somewhat unfair generalization of everyone who's ever stated an opinion on a game or some other form of media but I find sometimes it's just really obvious what someone is trying to do and the best thing you can do in that situation is don't engage.

Also, if games target at kids can be enjoyed by adults, why are the people enjoying them trying so hard to dispute the idea that those games are made with kids in mind? It just seems counterproductive. Either everyone can enjoy the same games despite it's target audience or people are trying really hard to argue against the idea that Nintendo's games have kids as their target audience because adults, despite their best efforts, don't like to be associated with consuming kid-focused entertainment.

To be honest I only brought it up because of the original post and some other responses suggested that it's impossible for adults to like Nintendo but maybe I read too much into that.

Not looked at every post but it seems there are a few false equivalences being used in the basis of the discussion. Hypothetically if I was told to make a game that is solely designed to be desirable to kids only I would have a had time trying to make a concept, not because I couldn't think of something kids would like but because I'd struggle to think of something that everyone else would dislike. What is really the huge difference in hobbies and interests between an adult and a kid? Most of my interests as an adult stem from what I got introduced to as a kid.

Obviously a murder gore fest game rated 18+ isn't something you'd let kids play (that said I'm sure a few people here, me included did find ways to play those mature rated games like GTA when we shouldn't have) but why would that suddenly depict anything measurably less gritty and violent as "kiddy". Preferring that aesthetic is a perfectly genuine opinion to have but that is what it is, a preference.

Basically I think having such a distinct boundary of "this is for the kids" and "this is for the adults" doesn't really work and implies kids are fundamentally different to adults which they are certainly different, but we are all people at the end of the day. Sorry if most of that has already been mentioned before but that's my 2 cents on this.

Probably could name a fair few titles but the original Watch Dogs was the first one to come to mind, mostly from being taken in from the early E3 footage and the slow realisation as I went through the game that it wasn't what I expected/wanted.

Basically if games aren't doing it for you find some other activities to try, taking a break from any hobby is good in the long run.

If you wanna stick to playing something then maybe try some different genres that you haven't played much, might kickstart an interest in a new game series you'd have never considered before.

The Far Cry games in general I've never got that far into the game. The second one in particular was very off-putting in the early game.

Blood Dragon I liked thought mainly for the astectic.

Not strictly related but I find the idea of a porn game counterproductive since your hands are usually 'occupied' for you to also be playing a game.
