I'm hoping Alex brings that same heat for EA as hottest mess come goty time. Last year he was great in arguing that category, and his holistic approach to the EA mess this year is dead on.

The argument against aesthetic only lootboxes for this game is that they're going for a ultra realistic look, and that makes it difficult to create things unique enough to want to have while not compromising the art style they're going for.

But I'd still buy a $60 dumb looking star wars game with decent battlefield type gameplay, because I like both of those things a lot. I'd love to buy this too, but I just don't want that angry or jealous feeling that comes from people with better stuff than you killing you, and knowing how little you can do about it without spending too much time or money.

Maybe I'd even toss some money toward a Jerec skin, since he is my generic internet avatar.

The thing I don't get is why it's all or nothing, free dlc and microtransactions or payed map dlc that splinters the user base. No middle ground allowed, one extreme to the other.

What about maps and modes being free but new characters, reinforcements and weapons being paid? There are so many goddamn Star Wars characters that they could release a character a week for the next 3 years and people would buy them. Want to play as a Droideka? It's 3 bucks. Want to play General Grievous? 5 bucks or something. People would buy a goddamn Lobot dlc if they put it out. Treat it like fighting game's do. Hell, have a season pass with access to all characters. People would be fine with it since the base game has enough content (unlike the first) and all the maps and modes would be free for everyone.

Really that card system is why people are pissed? It looked exactly like every other modern game.

And a 2 second cool down for an upgrade doesn't seem worth it, which is lame, but also so minimal why would anyone think that would give you a big advantage in mp.

Some of the upgrades you can get for ships increase it's damage output by 40%. Boba Fett's missile ability goes from dealing roughly a third of most heroes' health to one shotting every hero in the game with the right maxed out upgrades. This isn't as simple as 2 second cooldown reductions.

That's just one of many issues such as unforcasted enemy spawning, unclear line of sight rules, and failure to visually represent enemy units in overwatch.

I'd say the game overall has an issue with presenting information to the player. Lots of items have hidden effects, and event when effects aren't hidden, you usually can't tell exactly what something does unless you examine an enemy you just used it on. Poison grenades, flashbangs, and even suppression are all examples of this.

I think the game has lots of other issues (terrible difficulty curve foremost), but the lack of information given to the player is really below the standards of the genre.

Man, this game seems fucking rad, a real surprise. I was already into it from what I saw of the playdate, but seeing a larger gameplay scenario really sold me on this.

I have to agree, Dan needs to tone it down. His schtick has a time and a place and this series is neither. It works in other contexts, but here, it just spoils the fun.

@ripelivejam: I think it's more about entertainment value for most people. Sure some folks want sick headshots or whatever, but Dan looting alone in a house while we can hear the rest of his team in an intense firefight is not good video content. The game already has lulls and long periods with nothing happening, so when something exciting does happen, it would be nice to actually see it.

Vinny is officially the best at murder. He crushed it this episode.

I always root for Giantbomb doing well when they set out to accomplish something but here, I hope this series is a complete massacre. Xcom games are hilarious when everything starts going poorly, and this series is going to be the best if every episode opens with the current commander just going "What the fuck did you guys do last week for things to get this bad?"
