@humanity: I dont know, I would say Control didnt do anything amazing and yet that scored 5 stars (despite also having a lot of technical issues, at least on console) Obviously Jeff reviewed that not Brad.
This game reminds me a bit of Darksiders 3, which was also a souls/metroid game with a bunch of technical issues. I enjoyed that game quite a bit and I could see myself enjoying this, although much like Darksiders 3 I think i'll wait until the bugs are ironed out and it's cheaper before I play it.
3 stars also seems fair from what i've read. Good review.
The campaign seems like a huge step back from Infinite Warfare. I get that people want the real shit but my least favourite stuff in these games involves watching and waiting to be told to do something very simple (not doing so resulting in a failstate) and it seems like this has a lot of that.
This was one of the buggiest games i've played in recent memory. When everything worked the game was okay but none of the new elements added anything worthwhile to the Gears formula.
I know people like to compare the guy from Upgrade to Tom Hardy but I think he looks more like Vinny. (seriously, skip to 14:30)
Anyway, I know it's reductive and kind of shitty to say but this seems like Contradiction without the fun. I think I just prefer my FMV a little more cheesy and self-aware. Also, 20$ seems like a lot for this.
@development: I worried about that too but I found each of the worlds to be quite diverse and the level design to be pretty good, it's not as intricate as a souls game but it's better than say, Diablo or something of that ilk.
I finished the game solo not too long ago and was surprised how much different stuff i've seen in this QL and it's making me want to do another playthrough, still not sure I want to play this game multiplayer though, the scaling seems a bit weird.
Very excited to see that this turned out well. Downloading now!
Strange that I played Hard Corps 25 years ago and kept waiting for a new release of it. Thought it was lost to time and everyone would think Contra III and its bad top-down stages were the pinnacle of the series.
Now I'll have two ways to play that and a Hard Corps-like within a span of a few months. Works for me!
Theres also Hard Corps: Uprising which was developed by Arcsys and is personally my favourite in the series. I loved the dash, double jump and wall running you could do, shame it will never get a proper sequel.
I've played the first few levels of Blazing Chrome and it's okay but it feels more like the later Metal Slug games to me in that it's checking all the boxes but not really doing enough to be memorable.
@dagas: I might be misremembering but the one in KOTOR was way worse it had 4 grids, and certain nodes could only move in specific ways, that shit tormented me as a teenager. Granted i've never been good at these sorts of things. Regardless i'm glad I didnt have to do that on camera.
@kevlargorilla: Yeah I thought it especially sucked when they completely ignored the stunning revelation that McBride was the fifth black chamber member.
I mean if you're going to button through dialog and ignore it then at least dont pretend that you're reading it.
As it turns out Vinny was essential to this feature not going off the rails, I dont mind random wrestling chat but this was too much.
