Games I Finished in 2018
Pretty self-explanatory.
Pretty self-explanatory.
Good game, didn't have nearly as much trouble as Brad :P
Not a traditional Dead Rising experience, but fun in its own right.
Great little Link to the Past clone :)
Really, really enjoyable game. The world is lovely and interesting to explore, and all the clockwork mechanical parts that join the land together are very well designed.
Brutal, minimalisist 2D DOOM. Very fun.
First-person Sonic the Hedgehog, and also you have a robot suit that lets you jump good and control life and death. A surprisingly good game.
Boy, this game gets hard. Really enjoyed it despite it feeling a bit similar to Super Meat Boy.
Fun little beat-'em-up.
I actually liked the more modern Sherlock character design, and the extra gameplay bits they added that were a little more out there.
Was nice to replay this game a decade later with all the improvements. Still tied with FF9 as my favorite.
Clever little game, this is.
Fun little puzzler.
I was foolish for sleeping on this game for so long. Great sense of exploration & discovery, some good environmental storytelling (despite the ending, which I didn't love). Great game!
Wasn't super blown away by this like some folks, but a solid bit of storytelling. Really enjoyed the gameplay bits that got weird and differentiated it from similar titles.
Fun roguelite / match-3 mash up that I finally managed to beat :)
A++++++++++++++++++++++ video game
Replayed this with the wife, still pretty good!
Finishing Devil's Daughter inspired me to go back and finish this game. Gameplay-wise, a little more straightforward than Devil's Daughter, but the cases were more challenging, which I appreciated.
Some of the best world-building and character establishment I have seen in a game - the game is a lot of fun too :)
Fun co-op game to play with my wife - this is more what I wanted Magicka to be (a little less chaotic).
Glad I bought this to replay, still holds up super-well years later. My second favorite Mario and Luigi RPG behind Bowser's Inside Story.
Eh. Plays like a worse version of the Sherlock Holmes games that Frogwares makes. (Probably doesn't help that I played two of them just before this, haha.)
Cute game with just enough depth to it to be interesting.
Just a really fantastic shoot-em-up.
A real gem of a game. Very unique style in terms of its art, music, and movement mechanics.
A bit similar to the first, but still fun enough to play through.
Really tough yet enjoyable platformer. Love the style, mechanics, and focus on speeeeeeeeeed.
More Picross! Thanks Nintendo!
Really liked this classic-style adventure game. Challenging puzzles, good world building, excellent VO work, and tackles some sensitive issues regarding childbirth, cloning, etc. pretty well.
One of the harder JRPGs I've played, even the normal fights require a bit of strategy - the battle system is equal parts classic and new. I really like the art style and battle animations too.
Made a couple successful runs, and still looking forward to trying out all the different mech teams. Really great strategy game.
Another great Musou spinoff game.
One of the most secretly devious puzzle games I've ever played; it gets soooooooooooo much out of 2 simple mechanics.
Another simple puzzle game that is very, very clever.
One of those games that I know isn't perfect, but really held my attention for some reason.
Probably my favorite thing 10tons has made up until now. All the solid mechanics of Crimsonland but with more interesting art and level design.
The pacing was a little slow for my taste, and I wish there had been more puzzles. But the voice work is really great (especially Turing and Tomcat), and I liked the story and worldbuilding. Soundtrack rules too!
A bit too short for my taste, but has some decent puzzles and genuinely creepy character designs.
A fun beat-em-up that also wants to teach you history!
HAL Labs sure knows how to make a super-duper charming game, that's for sure.
This game sure goes some places. I really appreciated the battle system improvements this time around.
I like I may be burned out on Telltale games at this point.
Glad I got back to playing this game, it really is a great time. Feels like everything the first game wanted to be.
Fun little less well-known platformer.
Clever idea executed extremely well, with lots of fun stuff to discover.
Glad I picked up this remaster, still a ton of fun.
This platformer rules and has style for days.
Better than I expected B-tier stealth game. Good level design and some player choice with regards to finishing objectives. My one complaint is the insanely stupid & lame fourth-wall breaking quips you get every time you game over.
Fun game to play through with my wife.
Bare-bones presentation, but a solid puzzle mechanic.
Kinda mediocre game in the style of Flashback / Out Of This World.
Cute little co-op platformer. Reminds me a bit of Ibb & Obb.
SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT
Just a fantastic reboot of this series.
Cute little Metroidvania with some adventure game-esque puzzles.
Boy, just some fantastic audio work in this game. I wish there was a little more to the gameplay, but it is still a hell of an experience.
Great little puzzle / adventure game with some great aesthetics and styyyyyle.
Really enjoyed this throwback platformer. The level design is pretty varied and introduces a lot of gimmicks/mechanics per world. The final level is an especially cool twist :)
Enjoyed replaying this on the Switch and enjoying the DLC I didn't play on the Wii U version.
Neat little platformer / tower defense hybrid.
A little repetitive, but fun to play in short bursts. Luckily the writing and cutscenes were funny enough to keep me playing.
Great retro-styled Castlevania throwback. Really nails it across the board.
Really enjoyed playing this in the "Survival" mode they patched in post-launch. Made it so you had to engage with all the game's systems (hunting especially) through the entirety of the experience, and not feel super overpowered.
Surprisingly funny and mechanically interesting for a LEGO game. If it weren't for the PS4 port crashes (even lost my save file, luckily it was backed up), would probably be my favorite LEGO title.
Chill yet challenging game.
Really fun to play co-op with my wife, wish it was longer though. The platforming definitely feels better than the original game too.
Pretty engaging for a point-and-click adventure based on a historical fiction novel. Great art and voice acting, and a pretty lengthy game.
Was originally down on this game, but I came around after getting over the difficulty curve of the game and understanding the mechanics a little better. They also patched the game a lot over my course of playing the game, eliminating a lot of the technical issues.
I wish the shopkeeping aspect was a little deeper, but the overall gameplay loop of dungeon -> selling -> dungeon is quite addictive. Game has seriously gorgeous pixel art as well.
Bit of a low-budget title, but mechanically very interesting.
Essentially, an interactive novella with light puzzles. But I thought it does a great job of telling the story it wants to. Looking forward to more of these from Mike Bithell (I think a second game like this is out already!).
You like Super Mario 64? This game is like that.
One of my favorite visual novels. Really well written, tells an endearing and grounded story, characters are all great, and chill music to boot. The bartending gameplay is also enjoyable, especially when the customer's order isn't so obvious. Just an awesome game! :)
Weird how this game just abruptly ends, seems sorta unfinished. And I didn't love the transition into 3D.
This game rules.
The mystery of "who's the daddy?" is a lot of fun. Another good Yakuza game :)
Really unique, fun, joyous game. Had a ton of fun with this one.
More Overcooked is always good - not sure if it was easier than the first game, or my wife and I were just a lot of better at it.
Short but fun romp.
Really enjoyed this puzzle game, very cool mechanics, lots of story levels.
Fun iPad game, the Portal mechanics add a lot of fun to the proceedings.
Prettiest pixel art I've ever seen in a game. I liked the story and characters, but the gameplay was a little lacking. I thought Iconoclasts was a better version of this type of game.
Super weird game - really enjoyed it, wish it was longer though.
Really cool game that gets a lot of mileage out of a single mechanic. Loved the art and animation.
A little too similar to the first game, but still really fun.
Really enjoyed all the narrative aspects of this game. Wish there had been some harder puzzles, but still really enjoyable.
Not my favorite Kirby game, was fun to play together with my wife though.
Would love to see a sequel to this that expands on the mechanics.
Loved it!
