Marvel's Spider-Man, developed by Insomniac, had a very big buzz to it before it came out, and everybody who had played it previously liked alot. My expectations were high, and still I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. It's amazing, very well put together. It’s easy to be reductive about the state of AAA development these days. The idea that more and more big games are taking the approach of taking elements from this game and that, spinning them to fit the theme and narrative the developers are putting forward, and booting them out the door holds water at first glance. Marvel's Spider-Man was a welcome comeback to the Spider-Man franchise of games. From swinging around to exploring the city, it has what you'd expect from a Spider-Man game. Marvel's Spider-Man might borrow heavily from a selection of other great games, some of which feature a certain Dark Knight, but it also manages to make you care about the world of the web-slinging hero of New York in a way no past Spider-Man game ever as. Marvel's Spider-Man is a game so inspired by games such as the recent Batman series, Shadow of Mordor, and Mad Max that I was very surprised to learn that it was not published by Warner Bros. Spider-Man - whether in comic book, TV show, or cinematic form - has been in my life for as long as I can remember. The dualities and parallels between Spidey and Peter Parker always created uniquely humorous and darkly dramatic aspects to the wall-crawler. When I think Spiderman I think swinging through New York at lightning pace, and this game nails that. The web swinging is fast, easy to control and feels brilliant.
