DOOM Eternal is one of this generation's most stunning spectacles 14

The question of “How does id Software top DOOM 2016?” is answered in DOOM Eternal. The game’s ambitions are so wildly complex that the foundations of its brilliant combat and level exploration threaten to buckle under the stress. For some, it will; DOOM Eternal’s rules for combat are strict, necessitating the use of every available tool in nearly every combat encounter. It’s an experience that could prove too restrictive and demanding, but it resonated strongly with...

    Become Doom Guy 0

I think DOOM 2016 is one of the best games of all time. Its campaign is a tight twelve hours of nearly flawless level design, combat encounters, and headbanging music.I think that while DOOM Eternal stumbles in a handful more places, it stumbles only because it is running where DOOM 2016 walked. It is an ideal sequel, an evolution of the best parts of DOOM 2016, along with the introduction of things more novel to DOOM that work just as well. Top it off with a generous helping of 25 years worth ...

    Top notch shooter 0

This game was a breath of fresh air for me. A somewhat modern game that is honestly an easy 10/10 for me which is so so so rare. I enjoyed every second of the campaign, literally. It was so well done. The only issue is some bugs I encountered but nothing too serious. ...

    Much better than 2016 0

IntroWith DOOM 2016, id Software managed to surprise many players with their reimagination of the DOOM series, especially with the singleplayer part. With DOOM Eternal, they promised to bring even more brutal, fast-paced action. And they managed to do that with the singleplayer part.SingleplayerI finished the campaign in 25 hours on the Nightmare difficulty, with all the collectibles and challenges. Apart from the campaign, the game offers master arenas where you can test your skills, as well as...

    Best shooter of 2020 0

Four years ago, DOOM 2016 became my favorite shooter of all time. For a game I expected to suck DOOM completely surprised me at how true it was to the original. It was fast paced, intense, had great enemy and weapons variety and a kick-ass soundtrack. So naturally my expectations were very high for the sequel, and somehow it managed to exceed those expectations. Everything I loved about the first game carries over here and all the new added features were great additions such as the flamethrower,...

Doom Eternal demands you to learn its mechanics or die 0

Doom Eternal initially was a turn off for me, after beating Doom 2016 over and over. Everything is so different... ammo pickups are neon pink and green, guns are floating neon items that you pick up just by running over with no cool animation, ammo is as scarce as in a horror game, and you're thrown in this mess of not knowing what's happening except "I must kill".However after playing a few hours and getting the hang of the combat loop, as well as getting much needed upgrades and some verrrrry...

Raw cerebral intensity of Quake married with Doom's enemy roster and its violent, cathartic attitude 0

It's the raw cerebral intensity of Quake married with Doom's enemy roster and its violent, cathartic attitude. Enjoying this game requires a certain frame of mind, a certain willingness to push yourself and to think in the heat of the moment. But it's extremely rewarding if you meet it on its own terms. Nearly every weapon feels like it has a significant role, a stark contrast to Doom 2016's promotion of 2 weapon playstyles. Ammo counts have been massively reduced, pushing the player towards int...

    Fantastic 0

What is Doom Eternal? Short answer. Pure unadulterated badass demon slaying action!Long Answer. A well executed spin on the shooter genre, that aims to teach both new comers and veterans a different and unique way of approaching encounters, not only in this game, but all FPS out there. It excels at everything the 2016 Doom introduced and pushes that to a highly more adrenaline fuel rush than anything you've experienced before. It's faster, it's bigger and it's more Doom. It's a true blast to pla...

    Doom is Back! 0

Another incredibly fun FPS. Fast and tense action. Enemies shed flesh now as you lower their health, environments are spectacular throughout, even breath taking towards later levels. The jump puzzles are fun and do well to break up the combat encounters. Extremely violent, I winced at some of the new glory kill animations. With that said, there is a speed-bump here.Upon playing for the first time, I found myself struggling as I was gravitating to how I played the previous Doom game, pretty much...

    Demon slaying awesomeness 0

This is perhaps one of the most enjoyable experiences i've ever had with singleplayer games. First i was skeptical, thinking that Doom 2016 might just be enough for me simply because the skill ceiling on Doom Eternal is probably too high for my liking. I was wrong, it is true that Doom Eternal is much more mechanically dense than its predecessor but it has such an excellent skill curve that a lot of casual players can easily work their way up in term of skill. This game is not only a wonderful r...

    Remarkably fun game 0

Remarkably fun game. I've played all the DOOM games and this one is by far the best (in terms of fun-factor). What I mean by that is the game, at times, does NOT take itself seriously at all. Unlike the newest Wolfenstein games, it's done RIGHT with DOOM Eternal. The over-the-topness of it all really adds to the overall experience of DOOM and the story, although rushed, is VERY fun and interesting. Of course, you're not playing DOOM for the story...The weapons, abilities, modifiers, enemies, pu...

I Ripped and I Teared, and now It is Done 0

I Ripped and I Teared, and now It is done. Doom Eternal is pretty much what a sequel should be, more of the first game. I am of course referring to the game titled Doom from 2016 as the "first game" which while not correct at all is much easier to talk and write about as such so therefore I am declaring it okay. This game is more Doom. There are more weapons, more enemies, more levels that are also bigger, more upgrades, more systems/mechanics to juggle, and more story. More is not always bette...

Several months after DOOM 2016 ending the world has collapsed, overrun by demonic forces. After the Doom Slayer sent far away to an unknown location by Dr. Samuel Hayden, he returns with a fortress-like space station that serves as his headquarters. Now with 60% of the world consumed by demonic forces, the Slayer has to cease the invasion on earth by killing all three Hell Priests that seek to sacrifice all the human race.As we all know DOOM is mainly known for its frenetic and brutal gameplay ...

DOOM Eternal is brutal, ruthless, unmerciful, and unconditionally brilliant. 0

Hell and Heavens, Demons and Humans, DOOM begs the question: which is more corrupt and wicked? Us or them, Hell or heavens?DOOM Eternal is brutal, ruthless, unmerciful, and unconditionally brilliant.I didn't expect the game to be this good and it blew me away from the get-go. The music, the combat, and the story and lore all fall together to create a masterpiece of a game. The game takes everything that worked in DOOM 4 and just improves it further on, the combat is faster, the music hits harder,...

Not the hell you were expecting 4

A journey that takes you to hell and back Sequels can impose a precarious situation for both developers and fans alike. There is a delicate balance between changing too much and not changing enough that can so often be difficult to nail down. Doom 2016 was for all intents and purposes a blank slate for Id to work with and after several preview events expectations were quite low. Gore kills? Who put melee combat into a Doom game? Why do they keep talking about these Snap-Maps? Despite publisher ...

Rip and Tear Until It Is Done 0

It was four years ago when id Software released a refreshing take on the well-loved Doom franchise and has been rolling full steam ahead with Doom Eternal ever since then. What the 2016 installment of Doom offered was an exhilaratingly fun, fast-paced shooter that left fans of the genre, and franchise, with their jaws on the floor. The question most of us had coming into Doom Eternal was if they could keep that momentum and expand upon their crazy fun formula, or if it would eventually become st...

The first time I got my hands on an id Software game was playing Quake III Arena in an Apple store. It was around the time PS2 launched in Japan. Back in those days, Apple stores are showcasing the hardware power of the Mac computers by letting people playing so-called resource intense games on those machines. In that same store, there was also a 3D mascot game starring a purple ladybug, which I did not catch the name of. Those games can be seen as the 2 two polar opposites of the 3D action gam...

    A Pulse-Pounding Demon-Slaying Symphony 1

Doom Eternal on PS5 delivers a relentless, adrenaline-fuelled gaming experience that takes the iconic first-person shooter franchise to new heights. Developed by id Software, this highly anticipated sequel builds upon the success of its predecessor, immersing players in a fast-paced battle against the forces of Hell. With the addition of The Ancient Gods Part 1 and The Ancient Gods Part 2 expansions, the game offers an expanded and challenging narrative that pushes players to their limits. The ga...

Big improvement over the predecessor 0

I found the previous game was very overrated and bland. This is a big improvement. The movement, the combat depth and general mechanics are improved immensely. This game is extremely fun to play, great level design, great graphics, posfx, performance ... and weapons feels just right....

    Masterclass game 0

Doom Eternal is a masterpiece. id software (ID) has stuck to the same 27 year old formula that PC gamers fell in love with on MS DOS, and continue to improve on it with additional game mechanics, an upgraded engine, and new demons of Hell to slaughter while listening to excellent heavy metal music.✅ Quick Pros and Cons List ❎ProsAdditional mechanics, allowing for more options in combat and faster movement, further increasing the intensity of Doom’s refined gameplay.A brand new album of mus...

Bosses aside, who's up for another great Doom campaign 0

[Note: The multiplayer aspect hasn’t interested me nor do I have anyone to play it with, so that’s why it won’t be covered in this review.]For as much as I dislike relying on comparisons, it’s hard for 2016’s Doom (I’ll call it Doom 4 for the sake of ease) to not be stacked against Doom Eternal. It’s more of that heavy, crunching combat I enjoyed back in 2016 (which in itself is worth it at price of admission), and while there hasn’t been drastic c...

Shooting Evolved And Puzzles Solved 0

When Doom (2016) came out, I was full of praise that the game stuck to its old school roots while still evolving the gameplay mechanics, and now with Doom Eternal were are presented with the next evolution of the series. So what has changed since the last game? It has been twenty years storywise since the previous game. Well, instead of Mars we're now on Earth post the demonic invasion. The Doom Guy has learned to climb walls, a new dash has a new flamethrower on his shoulder (great for getting ...

    Doom Eternally Tiresome 1

So I'm pretty close to the end of the game, playing on Ultra-violence and honestly, this game stopped being fun a good while ago. This plays nothing like Doom (2016) and might as well be called anything but Doom. The only thing they kept was how the monsters look (which they managed to actually make even worse than in Doom (2016)!. The gameplay loop has you focus on weak points, for everything, this means you are constantly kiting every enemy while trying to farm the weaker ones.Battles become me...

Hell on earth is more frustrating than exciting. 0

I really liked Doom 2016, so I was excited to see where they were heading after the end of 2016. Doom 2016 ends with Samuel Hayden (with his big laser sword made of argent energy) sending you off somewhere unknown so you won’t stop his harnessing of argent energy. So it’s weird where Doom Eternal picks up. Starting some time after Doom 2016, it kinda just starts without letting you know what has happened since then. It’s just like “hey doom guy has a flying fortress now,...

Dissapointment, Thy Name Is Eternal 0

TLDR: Doom Eternal is a poor follow up to Doom 2016, failing in nearly every way to live up to the predecessor, excepting the Slayer Gates which are brilliant, shining beacons in an annoying morass of platforming and terrible level design. For reference, I played on Ultraviolence, the same difficulty I played all the other Doom games on, and on the PC, because its a Doom game and that's where they live. Also, spoilers. There is a universe where Doom Eternal came before Doom 2016, and is a fun rei...

Best shooter of the decade 0

Doom Eternal is one of the best games I've ever played. Its combat is the best fps combat I've experienced in my 20 years of gaming. Once you master and actually learn its combat is completely blows the previous game out of the water. It also has some of the best movement mechanics that are fluid and crisp. The campaign is incredible, and the multiplayer is full of fun, fast-paced combat. I have at least 120 hours on steam. ...

    DOOM: Eternal Review 0

This review was originally posted on my personal blog. My feelings on DOOM: Eternal are more complicated than I thought they were going to be leading up to the game’s release. I loved the crap out of 2016’s DOOM. Hell, it was my game of the year that year, but I don’t know that I’ll be able to say the same about DOOM: Eternal once the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, 2020. Don’t get me wrong, DOOM: Eternal is a great time, but I couldn’t help shake the...

The fifth main game in the Doom franchise, Doom Eternal, takes place eight months after the events of 2016's Doom. During these eight months, the demonic forces teleport Doom Slayer/Doomguy to Hell so they can take over Earth, which Khan Maykr is using human souls as energy to save Urdak, the home world of the Maykrs, and she has plans to awaken the Icon of Sin. The Slayer/Doomguy eventually returns to Earth and sets out to drive the demons away, stop Khan Maykr from awakening the Icon of Sin, a...
