I don't know exactly where to put this in the forums because it has to do with three things, Activision, Call of Duty Black Ops, and PSN. So I just left it in General Discussion. Anyways because of the massive amounts of lag issues on the PS3 version of Call of Duty Black Ops, Activision might end up shutting down the servers. Here's the article...

Anyways, what do you guys think? Do you think that they'll actually go through with it? I know that if they do, a lot of PSN players will be very upset. Here's the official PS3 Black Ops forums if you want to do some reading...

Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010
The seventh installment of the long-running action franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops puts players into the early era of the Cold War (including the Vietnam War) as a member of the United States black operations unit known as the SOG.
Activision might shut down Black Ops servers on PSN
Well, they already gave up on the PC. They should just make COD Xbox exclusive from now on if that's the only platform they want to put any effort into.
If they go through with it, I won't be surprised. They aren't exactly known for giving a damn about their consumer. Though I would expect they'll probably hold off on doing this until all the DLC has released, thus exploiting gamers to the maximum degree.
Sucks for PS3 owners I guess. If it's unplayable or not fun then they might as well. Maybe not a lot are playing it?
Funny how one of the comments on their official forums are
"OFN, they already talked about this as being because of all the angry people bitching and whining"
Also, official words were said by the devs themselves as "I just said we could, not that we were going to"
Also, the article asks "Could Activision shut down Black Ops PS3 servers?"
And the answer is: Yes, they could, but they won't"
I dunno, I played the game a bunch on PS3, and it worked fine for me. Sure, there were a few connection errors every once in a while, but that had more to do with my shoddy internet connection.
Oh well. I guess when something as awesome as the whole Valve Portal 2 deal on the PS3 happens, something negative has to happen. You know, the universe balancing things out.
If it has really become that much of a problem, then I would want them to shut it down. At least they are offering the ability to turn it back in, swap for the Xbox 360 or PC versions, or for an other Activision game of the same price.
That's crazy son. You'd think Activision would have enough man-power to get this working properly instead of just abandoning it.
Dude just think about how much money it would cost to take in all those used discs and send out new discs to replace them. Doesn't seem like an Activision kind of move.
LOLZ. So not regretting choosing to buy the Modern Warfare Combo Pack for $30 instead of BlOps for $45.
But honestly, if Activsion did do that, it'd be a big F-U to their PS3 fanbase. Though I don't think anyone likes Kotick at this point, it's hard to imagine that we could hate that company more. I wonder how much of Blizzard's money is going towards propping the rest of Activision up.
After reading another forum post on the Black Ops forums, I guess there's some independent gaming pressure group by the name of "Gamers Voice" that is stating that it's PS3 and PC copies that have the problems. Even worse is they're going to report them to the government for an unfinished product. Here's the article..." If it has really become that much of a problem, then I would want them to shut it down. At least they are offering the ability to turn it back in, swap for the Xbox 360 or PC versions, or for an other Activision game of the same price. "

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for moving it. I was sweating massive donkey balls over where to put this. Didn't want to upset the internet Gods (mods).
I don't think that would happen because that first article was based on one user conplaining to somebody at activision who was just being frank about the matter. The server will stay lagless or full of lag activision does not care as long as people are playing.

I mean this game is only something like 3 months old, and imagine all the people who got it for Christmas... Sure "online experience may change at any time". They are using that very very loosely. This games online modes are probably account for more than 65-75% of time people put into these games I mean, it is one thing to take down the servers after maybe 5 years or something, but all of this is making me want to go back to PC. Shutting down these servers in the first place is stupid... there is little to no up keep years after a game has been released and if there is still a healthy community, why shut these severs down? I would personally still be playing Halo 2 if Microsoft wouldn't have shut down the original Xbox Live! service.
I think I am just going to ask them for a refund if this happens and go on playing MW2.

"In my area, everyone who got it for Christmas regardless of platform sold it. Quite interesting how the game got such a bad rep so quickly.
Bah, thata a bluff. They probably want some special treatment from Sony. How many people play blops on the ps3? I am guess at least a quarter. Thats million in sales.
On the other hand. Yeah, please do so. EA will be happy to fill the gap with an awesome version of Battlefield. The PS3 already proved with M.A.G. that it is fully capable of massive FPS battles.
" If it has really become that much of a problem, then I would want them to shut it down. At least they are offering the ability to turn it back in, swap for the Xbox 360 or PC versions, or for an other Activision game of the same price. "Should be a full refund if you ask me. If it's only for swap or exchange that just means all they did was guarantee a sale of their products and it really doesn't harm them at all to shut down the PS3 servers.
Poor PSN users, imagine if that happened, then all the other online games would be cursed by the CoD playerbase.
" If they did this, Microsoft would be all smiles. Call of Duty is a major seller and if it wasn't on the PS3, the vast majority of PS3-only people who still wanted to play it badly would turn to the 360. "Maybe Sony would be happy too for a short while. You just do not suddenly abandon your console, only for one game. Especially if there are a lot of alternatives, with a presumably pretty good one coming out in the near future as a platform exclusive. New console purchases are a different thing though, also we are at a point in the life cycle were a lot of serious gamers (not necessarily the "CoD all day"-crowd, though) has multiple systems.
" @jNerd said:Ya... but most people have a game disc in when they're playing online. He's just running script." The only people I know who game online over PSN have hacked systems, my friend plays Black Ops for free online everyday. I don't approve, but it's partly Sony's fault. "Ummm...All online gaming on PSN is free. "
I meant free because he doesn't pay for his games :P
" @Mordukai said:I see, you should have just said he pirated the game. You should laugh in his face when he call you and say "Man my PS3 is not working" then you can say that he's got a one expensive paper weight." @jNerd said:Ya... but most people have a game disc in when they're playing online. " Would be funny as hell, but man, if they did that. "If they did that then they'll lose a user base of over 8 million people. Do you really think Activision would do that????? I find it funny that some people take this "threat" seriously.
