great so now they are going to fire the top developers for bungie when they screw up
Bungie
Company »
Bungie is a development studio owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment. They are the creators of the Marathon, Myth, Halo, and Destiny series of games.
Didn't See That Coming: Bungie Signs 10-Year Activision Deal
I don't think this is a bad thing at all. As gamers, we win. They took the deal the smart way keeping control of the IP's, and at the end of the day its still talented people making games for us. Bananas.
Is Bungie god damn retarded? Did they not just see one of Activisions BEST dev studio get butt fucked?
Idiots
Chill people. Bungie is not owned by Activision. This is an 'arrangement'. Read the article, Bungie retains the rights to all of the Intellectual Property. Which is a good thing for the developer.
I'm trying to decide what's the bigger blindside: Tiger Wood's stray shots into the rough or this delicious slice of mental pie?
Probably this. Famous sports dudes on the road are no doubt always having groupie crumpet hurled at them, so that was surely a matter of time. But this? THIS? Whacked me upside the head with a large lead-coated salami.
As far as I'm concerned, Bungie haven't put a foot wrong and you'd imagine they'd be smart enough to cover their butts. Obviously the mistakes of someone else's past help to educate them as well. Regardless of what you think about either the Halo or Activision brands, this could yield some interesting shit.
Bungievision - has a certain ring to it, no? Wait, what do you actually get if you fully merge Bungie and Actiblizzard? Just how in the hell are we supposed to port-manteau all three of these mother fuckers? Actiblizg... Actiblung... Actiblingie? Can we get away with Actiblingie?
-_- You morons!!! BUNGIE!!!! I thought you were smarter than this!!! Why??? A ten-year contract with the whores of the gaming industry???? WHY????
Doesn't really affect me, since I haven't been interested in Activision since their MechWarrior 2 days, and Bungie doesn't make games for my platform any more.
This is all kinds of crazy, but I can't help feeling that it's some sort of upraised middle finger to Zampella and West in addition to being a fairly smart business deal. Hopefully Bungie's next project won't play anything like Halo.
Bungie going multiplatform was a foregone conclusion and I really cant blame them. But signing with Activision
is absolutely all kinds of fruit. Seriously bad banana mouth. just dont know if I can put money in bobby's pocket, regardless of who makes the game. Hard to say now that I wont buy whatever this unholy union yields, but it goes from being a "first day, no doubt purchase" to a " maybe pick it up used".
Inferior PS3 version incoming. Bungie has no experince on PS3, and I have a feeling their going to mess it up somehow.
" @gunslingerNZ said:Bungie isn't a studio capable of turning out a complete game every year. They can rush a game out the door once a year but it's not going to be finished. This is the studio that recently took a full year to release what was originally going to be a Halo 3: TC, a title that required little to no engine work.Regardless, neither of us know the terms of the contract, and Bungie seems happy with it, so saying you're sure that there's going to be a new Bungie game every year is jumping the gun just a tad. "" @august: Because that's the way big business deals like this work. There's lots of different interests and egos at work and they certainly don't happen overnight. Just because you spend a long time negotiating a contract doesn't mean you will have got everything you wanted, in fact getting full rights to any IP they create is a bit of a coup and probably why it took so long. "
" @buwchbach said:I feel you man. I like the Halo fiction a lot, but the games...not so gr8 akshuly." @floodiastus: Sorry, I did not mean to seem so aggressive, I just have a different way of viewing things. For example, I really don't like Brittany Spears' music, but I would not call it total shit because there was at least a bit good will put into it(Actually I don't think Brittany Spears is the best example for this). But yeah, sorry about that, I am not that good at conveying what I think/feel on forums very well. "I get where you are coming from, but still people that do evil shit also put a good amount of effort in, not that Halo is evil hehe. It saddens me when "shitty" IPs get alot of attention because it blocks the light to other greater titles that may not sell as well and thus be discontinued. Halo is a franchise I wish had died after the first game, maybe that would have made room for a much nicer IP :) "
I was really feeling optimistic about Reach because I think that's kind of the most solid piece of that universe, the best set up, etc. But now it sounds like it will just be another Halo game, with great graphics.
Conspiracy theories, goooo!
Anyways, I hope this turns out to be a great deal for Bungie, and it is great that they can keep their IP. I am excited to see what comes after Halo.
" Inferior PS3 version incoming. Bungie has no experince on PS3, and I have a feeling their going to mess it up somehow. "PS3 and 360 both have hardware based on POWER, which is what Bungie worked on for Macs before they went multiplatform with Mac/PC. The PS3 and 360 also both have similar graphical capabilities. Nvidia and ATI have a common approach to the shaders and so forth from the programmers side. Their actual approach on the hardware is different but that is largely transparent to the developer.
Bungie has the brains to build a very fine multiplatform engine as long as they stick to high end machines. Targeted games for other stuff (phones, nintendo toys) would make sense, but there isn't going to be a PS3/PS2/360/Wii title anytime soon. Plus we're still talking two years here before they start showing their game. By the time it releases we could be seeing the next generation coming out the gate.
Publishers everywhere, the lesson to be learnt: Don't push your developers into a vicious sequel cycle unless they want to do one! They get burnt out and then leave you.
If you haven't read Chris Grant's interview with Bungie today, go do it now:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/29/interview-bungie-discusses-activision-its-new-universe-and/
Chris does very good interviews, and I think he asked most of the right questions here, even if he didn't get all the answers you'd like.
MY GOD, THE APOCALYPSE HAS COME!
I don't know if this is good, bad, or a dark mauve, but DAMN is it surprising!
Halo better stay an xbox exclusive in the future. I'm no fanboy, but it just wouldn't feel right playing Halo on ps3...kinda like it wouldn't feel right playing Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid on 360...oh wait!

" @100_Hertz said:Dude, never say never. We would have said the same thing about Sonic just ten years ago, and now he's running about on every system out there. Hell, I think there's even a Sonic N-Gage game. Alright, probably not, but you get the point." Halo better stay an xbox exclusive in the future.
