Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.
A concept in games with multiple characters, a screen with pictures of all playable characters with the possibility of stat listings.
Special codes or button combinations used to gain powers or advantages in a game. Generally hidden.
Collectibles are items such as coins, rings, gems, packages etc. that can be gathered, usually for some kind of reward, or sometimes to simply beat a level. Often (almost too often) the source of earning achievements and trophies on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
A non-interactive sequence within a game most often used for plot advancement.
Sometimes you want a challenge, sometimes you wanna coast.
Picking the gender of your character can help immerse you in the game world. Sometimes this leads to different abilities in-game, sometimes it means nothing at all.
A heads-up display is a graphical overlay of vital information used in most modern games.
Skating with inline skates, which have all the wheels in a single line rather than separate rows.
A game in which the player competes in several different real or invented sports events.
Games that allow the player to give custom names to characters in the game, most often the protagonist.
A two-dimensional image or animation overlaid into a scene. The foundation of early 2D games, making up everything from props to the player-controlled character.
When a certain amount of time is given to the player to reach a goal or finish an objective.
A game perspective that views the action from above, commonly at a fixed position and/or rotation.
Games often use letters like X and Z in the title to make their game seem more edgy, blatantly misspelling the title of their game in the process.
