World Series Baseball 98 features lifelike windups of pitchers, lifelike batting stances of hitters, real stadiums, actual pitches of pitchers, and the minor leagues. For hitting you can choose one of four quarters of the strike zone to try and guess the location of the upcoming pitch. If you are right you have a better chance of making good contact with the ball.
Unlike its Saturn predecessor World Series Baseball II, WSB 98 was not released in Japan, making it one of the very few US-exclusive Saturn titles. The Saturn version, though it shares the same name as the Genesis/Mega Drive game, was developed independently of that title by Sega Sports and is largely a different game.
