He got scholarship offers to play football, but he chose to accpet a scholarship offer to play basketball for Southern Illinois University. In the NBA he played for two teams: the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers. His number 10 was retired by the New York Knicks. In 1987 he was elected to the Hall of Fame. Over his career he won two championships and was an All-Star 7 times. He currently works as a commentator for Knicks games, alongside Mike Breen.
