    Overview

Wacky Spores: The Chase is a colorful RPG runner which combines the strategy of turn-based battles with the taste of directly aiming your shots in an endless runner style.

The game is currently available on Steam.

    Gameplay

    The Worlmap
    The Worlmap

The game is structured like an endless runner with different levels. From a worldmap the player selects a level and starts an infinite battle with the objective of going as far possible as well as collecting coins by picking them up or by completing quests.

Once all the party members are dead the player is taken back to the worldmap where he can equip what he has unlocked, like new party members or artifacts, or start running again.

    Combat

The combat is the core of the game. The battles are turn-based with 4 turns: one for each party member and one for the enemies. During the enemies turn they move, shoot and cast abilities in real time, and player has to dodge everything by moving the party. That is not trivial not only for all the chaos on screen, but also because the party is locked together. For these reasons not everything is dodgeable and player needs to make choices.

During the player's turn everything is frozen and he can, for every mushroom, fire a weapon, use the special ability or use an item.

    • Weapon: they are the bread and butter of every turn. They can move enemies around the battlefield, disable them, apply status effects or, obviously, kill them.
    • Ability: every mushroom has a special ability which can be used for free every x turns. They range from speeding up the party to creating singularities or increasing the party critical chance.
    • Item: these are very powerful single use gadgets that the player can find in the battlefield and are lost at the end of the battle. They can freeze or burn every enemy, fully heal the party, etc.

The five different areas contains very different enemies. Some are melee and some are ranged, some buff the others, some have special abilities (like spawning other enemies) and some move differently.

On top of that champions and bosses can spawn. Champions are mor powerful version of the standard enemies, but each boss has very different abilities and can also move during the player's turn.

The player levels up by collecting coins, either dropped by the enemies or granted for completing a quest, simple missions to be completed in battle, like freeze 50 bug, run 500 meters in the desert etc.

Every level up unlock something or gives all your mushrooms a bit more life. Besides new mushrooms, weapons and battle areas the player can unlock artifacts, powerful equippable items that grants passive boosts to the whole party, like more damage, life, coins found, double items, etc.

    Playable Characters

    • Grog: captain of the legendary vessel 'Tidestool', Grog fears no sea bug.

With his only real friend, the inseparable parrot 'Captain Jack Sparrot' he ravages and plunders all across the Deep Puddle.

    • Nuts: nuts is a completely unpredictable hallucinogenic mushroom that usually spends his time accidentally annoying other mushrooms.
    • Snap: snap runs. He just run. A lot. He runs and headbutts things.
    • Doc: doc is constantly busy doing unlikely and umpredictable experiments which tipically lead to disastrous results.
    • Spoon: he'll always have a recipe to cook something, no matter how strange it is.
    • Spur: nobody knows much about him: as soon as there is the possibility to rack up some coins killing scum, he just comes out of nowhere, finishes the job, and fades away.
    • Dig: he spends all his time digging holes and tunnels, searching for coins, ancient treasures or who knows what.
    • Sarge: if you need to use your head then you better ask someone else, but if you need to bash, stun, kill or explode something, he's the right mushroom.
    • Tiki: he lives away from everyone in some swamp gathering, cooking and stocking parts of variour beings.
    • Mug: mug is tough. Tough and irritable. You just won't like him angry.
