I quite enjoyed the multiplayer demo. The shift ability seems well balanced, driving feels like the older games in the franchise and that 1st person view is great.

Never forget my first Driver experience, ah nostalgia.

It's getting some good reviews so far, can't wait until it's out.

@Dagmar: Ah, but they actually do know. They made Destruction Derby, Driver, and Stuntman.

If you've played the demo, you can tell they made the game as fun as possible: the cars are fast, the jumps are high and there's a real rush from dodging traffic or power-sliding round a corner in an old school muscle car.

Did not expect such innovation from the Driver series. I hope it pays off for them.

There's something about this game that doesn't strike me as interesting... However, I can't deny that these game modes look like a lot of fun.  Maybe this title is starting to look up!

They need to add a like button for comments, and / or gameplay trailers.

After playing the demos on XBL I can safely say I was pleasantly surprised with both the quality and the amount of fun I was having with Driver: San Fransisco. It might not be a day 1 pickup but I will undoubtedly check it out sooner or later.

It's a weird possibly sad state of affairs because every time I see single player stuff I make a sad face, every time I see mulitplayer stuff, I think this could be fucking awesome and I make a happy face.

I still think it would be great/awful/fucked if you could shift into other player's cars and kick them out.

Tried the demo and to say the least it looks really interesting, as I didn't know exactly what cars were in this game it actually made me laugh when I jumped into an old 500 and started ramming  other players with much bigger cars.

At first I was like "this is going to be shit" but then I was like "they are performing interviews in and around cars, so now its good"

Jokes aside, the game looks quite fun

Looks pretty good but with everyone in the video constantly saying "shift" I thought this game was a new Shift!  I was wondering why is looked so arcadey when Shift is supposed to be much more "sim" like Forza or GT.   But, I gotta say, the multiplayer looks like more fun than I've seen in a lot of other racers.  Here's hoping Driver can return to being a well received franchise again.

The crashes seem like they could maybe use some more impact. When the camaro runs headon into the semi i was a little disappointed that it just sorta got pushed back. If the cars are this disposable and you can shift out of them give the collisions a bit more weight and exploit this idea.

@abdo: I wasn't saying they can't make a good racing game. Only that filming the video while the reps were driving, or standing against cool cars is some infomercial-like useless addition to the video.

Game developers talking about their driving game while sat on top of cars or inside moving cars. HOW RAD.

In all seriousness though, this looks alright. Looks a lot like Burnout: Paradise...

The "kick" mechanic seems like it will be all kinds of frustrating, unless it's difficult to target. Not seeing your enemy at all as they randomly screw up your driving? Eh. Otherwise, not looking too shabby.

Both the kick and the weird transforming a semi into a sportscar sounds like things added because they failed to make the core shift interesting enough.

And yeah, agree that getting "kicked" will be frustrating as hell.

I see it as a bad idea. The whole multiplayer looks like it's going to be non stop crashing into each other and not being to go anywhere at all.

I remember in the original Driver, you could edit something in the txt file that made it so you can slam into a car and that car would go flying across the map, that was hilarious.

Yeah I'm not into this concept. If you can shift between cars then what's the point of choosing a good starting car?
I wonder how they're going to limit the shifting because people would just shift to a car in front of them the whole time to get to first and win the race.

If there's one thing I like it's smashing cars into other cars, so hopefully this will be good. I'm curious how they'll be able to make races feel like actual races though with everyone presumably just shifting into cars farther ahead. I think the mechanic might start feeling a little cheap. One of the good things about racing games is the tension of having to drive extremely well to beat other drivers (if they're good), and if there's no real penalty for driving poorly then all that tension is gone.

Pretty disappointed. To me , Driver was always about driving precision and skill. Hell the Driver Tutorial was great. No other driving game does that.

Now its just another racing game. Sure you can shift around but its still to do the same old crappy driving.

Played the single player demo wasn't that fun but the multiplayer seems like it's fun. I wouldn't mind just buying the multiplayer as a download arcade game.

While the Driver franchise doesn't hold any interest for me anymore (I owned a copy of Driv3r... ugh!) the shift thing actually does appeal to me. I don't see this as a racing game at all (because that wouldn't be fun with the shift mechanic) but as a capture-the-flag or chase game it looks like it could be wildly fun. I would love to see what this becomes when its released.
