Vepar appears as a mermaid and has dominion over water. She can strengthen ships and fit them with arms and armor, or sink them as she pleases. She can also generate storms at sea. In addition, she has the unpleasant ability to make men die within three days by making their wounds become severely infected and gangrenous; they will apparently become full of maggots after death. However, she can also reverse the course of these infections if she so chooses.
