Overview
During the Age of Blood, after the disappearance of the Shissar, the Iksar began to dominate the continent of Kunark. Five separate tribes were formed, but the Kunzar, led by Venril Sathir, were the most prolific and powerful. A big reason for this was Sathir's mastery of necromancy, which allowed him to raise an entire army of undead that inevitably allowed him to conquer and unite the other tribes. As emperor, he founded the magnificent, subterranean city of Sebilis and many other fortresses that would stand the test of time. As Sathir got older, he became obsessed with eluding death. His immense power as a necromancer drew the eye of Innoruuk, the god of hate. A pact with the Prince of Hate allowed Sathir to live forever as a lich, which anger his eldest son, Rile. As Venril was performing the ritual taught to him by Innoruuk, Rile sabotaged his father, trapped his soul in an amulet, then burned Venril's body.
At some point prior to the Age of Turmoil, which was centuries later, the amulet containing Venril Sathir's soul was discovered in by cultists in Rile's tomb. Using the remains of Rile, they resurrected the soul of Venril. He claimed Karnor's Castle as his new home and began raising an army of undead, Sarnaks, Drolvargs, and other wretched creations in an attempt to avenge his fallen empire by ridding the world of dragons. With the rediscovery of Kunark by the adventuring races of Norrath, Venril Sathir became a prime target for those seeking powerful relics and armor.
Later on during this age, it is believed that Venril Sathir was responsible for a curse placed upon the The Nest of the dragons residing in northeastern Antonica, some of which once roamed the Skyfire Mountains of Kunark in Sathir's time. This became known as the Shadowspine Curse, the roots of which led deep underground into the Depths of Darkhollow. It was here that adventurers discovered the fabled vampire Mayong Mistmoore had been hiding and amassing strength. While Venril himself was never seen in the region, it is believed that the lich emperor and the vampire were in some sort of alliance.
