The systems in these games are governed by rules from the pen-and-paper RPG Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. There have been many turn-based and action RPGs that have utilized parts of the AD&D rule set.
A faction of vampires believing in free will above anything, at war with the Kuei-Jin and the Camarilla.
Bats are small, very social flying mammals. They may frequent caves or haunted houses.
A common character class / archetype in role-playing games and fantasy. They are often less chivalric than your average Knight-errant, generally being depicted as either archetypal villains (such as a Dark Lord), or troubled and ruthless anti-heroes.
Necessary to sustain life in organic creatures, the crimson fluid known as blood tends to make appearances when the body's structure is compromised in some way, a very, very common occurrence in videogames.
When one creature takes the blood of another creature, usually against their will. An excellent example is a vampire.
Corpses disappear immediately or after a short delay. Often done to help maintain game performance, especially when physics are involved.
Your body is torn apart and your organs are falling out. But don't worry, you have the ability to pull yourself back together.
Vampire idealists, rebels with passion... many of them among the Anarchs.
A governing body of vampires attempting to keep order and uphold The Masquerade. Considers all vampires its members, willing or not.
The ultimate enemy and primordial source of all evil. In Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy universe.
Elves who have often been corrupted in some manner, changing their skin tone and leaving them with a predisposition towards evil. Sometimes called "Drow".
Darkness is used in games to restrict access, increase tension, or just to set a mood. Often the player has access to a light source that can mitigate its effect.
Environments cycle between day and night, often with effects on other aspects of the game.
A catch-all term for the collection of gods, monsters, and spirits that manifest in the Megami Tensei series. The English usage is derived from the Greek word "daimon," which was used to describe ethereal beings both benevolent and malevolent.
Demons are generally creatures of evil, usually from Hell, who are often totally untrustworthy even when they're not murdering everyone and destroying everything in their path.
A dhampir is the child of a vampire and a human. Dhampirs usually inherit the abilities of a vampire, but don't suffer from all the weaknesses.
Durability refers to the condition of the currently equipped weapons and armor, among other things. Overusing the said item without repair generally results in it breaking or otherwise becoming non-functional. Many games with role-playing elements incorporate this feature.
Games that feature an antagonist--someone who opposes the game's protagonist--that is a woman.
Fairly weak enemies (not specific characters) that go down in a couple shots or swings, but will keep coming in droves.
These vampiric Dark Elves stalk any who are foolish enough to enter Innoruuk's realm, the Plane of Hate.
Frankenstein's monster is the creature inspired by the Mary Shelley novel, Frankenstein. Usually creatures inspired by this theme are made from different body parts and almost always have bolts through their necks. They're usually naive and destructive.
A clan of vampires in touch with their inner beast. Members of this bloodline can transform into ferocious animals and summon other creatures to their aid.
Magical creatures made of stone, resembling the grotesque statues commonly part of Gothic architecture such as the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
A human servant to a vampire allowed to drink their blood, giving them some of the vampire's power.
The term 'gypsy' typically refers to exotic people who live a nomadic lifestyle travelling while selling and trading goods. The official name for the real-life ethnic group is "Romani", with many of that group considering the word "Gypsy" offensive.
A living being who is the product of the reproductive mating of two different species.
A night of ghost, ghouls, costumes, and candy. Some video games are based around this holiday, while others simply pay it respect with special levels or characters that embody the spirit of All Hallows' Eve.
Whether a character never ages or is invincible, immortality represents the inability to die. Sometimes this is a blessing, sometimes it is a curse. Either way it usually makes for an interesting game mechanic.
Hopping Chinese vampires that suck life force.
