    Short summary describing this game.

    The Valhalla Hills Beginner's Guide

Welcome to the world of Valhalla Hills, bold warrior!

Your Vikings have fallen from grace and from Valhalla. How will they ever manage to build a settlement, confused as they are right now?

We've recently introduced the toolmaker to Valhalla Hills. Vikings don't build tools on their own anymore and you got more control over which tools they produce.

This means, you start an island by building a toolmaker and then a woodcutter. You need to build an axe for the woodcutter; the woodcutter is able to punch trees into logs, but it takes much longer than using an axe. Don't forget, you also need e.g. a fishing rod for the fishing hut, which the toolmaker has to make. No fishing rod means no fish. No fish means hungry vikings early in the game.

If you click on a production building you see the radius of influence of the correspondent worker. So, always build a woodcutter near trees, a fishing hut near water, a quarry should be near rocks and so on. You can increase this radius by building roads, making your Vikings reach their destination faster.

The building extensions were removed and turned into seperate buildings. Build those close to the other buildings they have to interact with. The in-game describtions will help you here.

Tents and their larger counterparts increase the limit of available Vikings. Also, workers who have a place to rest recover faster than those poor guys who have to camp in the open. Well-rested Vikings will be able to work longer and more efficiently. If your Vikings are hungry or tired, they'll work less efficiently.

The composition of the ground you are building on is important. If the ground is highlighted green, you need less resources to build something. If it's orange or even red, you need more resources. Keep in mind that you can't grow crops for farms on stone.

You can also demolish buildings, salvaging some of the resources spent in the process.

You can complete an island map (or keep playing, if you wish), when your Vikings open the largest portal on the map.

If your Vikings approach a portal, you can click it and open it with the corresponding icon. But be careful, enemies may come out of the portal and attack your Vikings. Sometimes, you only win if you open the smaller portals, too and defeat all the enemies there. Enemies drop ressources.

You can see how many enemies and what kind appear by clicking on a portal. Then you can choose to go to battle!

The stone where your vikings appear needs to stay intact. If it is destroyed, your progress on the current island is lost and subsequently the current game.

    Are you prepared?!

To prepare better for a fight, you can build a warcamp to train warriors. Here, you can also order different weapon types. Your warriors will patrol the area around the warcamp and will attack any foe in the camp's radius. Warcamps and the trading post are the only buildings that can be relocated.

If there's a goldsmith or a brewery near the warcamp, your warriors will get their share of gold and root beer to grow stronger and increase their health. This applies to supply buildings in which these goods are stored and support units who gather gold and root beer for your troops as well. If a weapon smith is in the warcamp's radius you can equip your fighters even better. This is highly recommended, since enemies on higher places can be tough.

Alternatively you can erect altars to bribe your enemies inside the portals with resources. How many resources you need for each enemy is indicated when you click the portal after building an altar and having had at least one Viking near the portal.

Enemies soothed this way won't leave the portal and thus you don't need to fight them.

During the game you can build storages to store gathered resources. This way, your Vikings have easy access to essential goods and don't have to travel across the map.
