Banishing Diseases to the Sound of a Rock Orchestra

29 hours and 7 minutes of surgical precision later and I finish Trauma Team. All in all, not bad for a game that consists nearly entirely of tracing things on the screen with the Wii remote. Well, "nearly entirely" is wrong as there are some motion controls and some other pointing mechanics. The most disagreeable of the motion controls belong to the endoscopy operations where you hold A & B and thrust forward on the Wii remote to move forward. The Wii remote pointer is also a flashlight during endoscopy so doing those two things at once can be tiring. I didn't mind the motion controls in endoscopy much and I welcomed the variety it brings to the game. Variety is the game's strong suit as the six characters have you either performing intense surgery, juggling triage patients, accurately healing bones, exploring the digestive tract, diagnosing patients, or solving murders. The latter two, diagnostics & forensics, play out as point-and-click adventures which I find to be engaging and lengthy. Sometimes there are bad pixel hunts and the player being ahead of scenario's narrative logic, but the modes are interesting and slower affairs that contrast with the other four characters hectic operations.

One thing I wish the game had is higher production values. The game's story cutscenes are presented as motion comics with very pretty character design and backgrounds. It would've looked really nice if the story cutscenes were more animated. One thing that I wouldn't change is the game's music sensibilites. Finishing a difficult surgery operation to a fanfare of violins and a guitar is very satisfying.
