I DON'T MAKE RESOLUTIONS..... I MAKE WAR!

A Happy New Year Dear Readers,
I hope you all had a great Christmas and a Merry New Year. I can gladly inform you that I did cheer up over the Christmas period and almost got rid of my Humbug status. But I wanted to actually talk about a concern I have for the year 2009 in Videogames. It's fair to say that we have been treated with some special games these past two years but I have a couple of concerns looking towards what will be on offer to us gamers this year. Now in a number of discussions with friends over LIVE recently I have come to realise that there is only a few titles I'm honestly and truly excited about. I can currently only think of four videogames that wet my gaming appetite and that worries the True English Gent a little. I think most gamers feel a little weird about a new year when we end the previous year with such a collection of top triple A titles all seeing a release within weeks of each other. These are usually the times when we get to complete all those games we picked up over those weeks or months, and I to will be getting around to completing a good few games in the coming weeks when I have the time. 

But I have a honest concern for this year, I think we are currently at a turning point when analyzing both console and PC Gaming. Infact I feel as if we may be at a bit of a turning point for the industry, could we finally be seeing the first signs of the future appear this year. Despite Sony telling us all that the Playstation 3 will be going strong even till 2010 I have a odd feeling that the industry as a whole might be thinking 'so what's next?' to Videogaming. Again it may be Microsoft who make the first move, I seriously suspect we may get our first pieces of information on what Big M have up their million dollar sleeves console speaking and although I don't believe we will see the next Xbox anytime soon. It wouldn't surprise me to see leaked information make it's way to Videogame sites such as this. But going back to Videogames for a second, I can only really think of up to four titles hitting this year that truly excite me. Compare that to past years and you find a real decrease in what to look forward to. Of course It could be argued that we are still recovering from 2008's year of top games. But I'm not totally sure. 

I am of course just one gamer, and I'm sure my theory will go down the pan almost instantly but I do have an odd feeling about 2009 for gaming. I would be surprised to see it not end out with a good few surprises on the new console front. Some could say it's still to early, but wasn't the Xbox 360 released in 2005? it seems like the perfect time to hear rumours of the next console being developed by Microsoft, infact it's already began in the form of a number of stories being thrown about the media in 2008. Maybe I will be totally proven wrong, I'm use to that happening but in my time speaking with friends over LIVE I can't help but get the feeling other gamers feel the same. Something will happen this year and I suspect it will be something special indeed. Despite my thoughts and theories on these matters, I'm positive we will have another strong year in gaming. We still have a good few games to look forward to and who knows, maybe we will even see some other top games finally announced and shown. Heres just a few of the games I would enjoy finally seeing this year:

Half Life 2: Episode 3.
Assassins Creed 2.

I'm sure theres a couple more in this mind of mine, but those are just a few of the games I really hope we finally see in action this year. What would be yours?

Finally I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the comments, suggestions and nice people who I've met on GiantBomb since it launched. I believe I forgot to do this in my previous blog just before Christmas but I've been busy with none gaming stuff over the holidays that I haven't spent as much time on GB then I originally wanted to. I've been looking for a new home of games ever since the 'you know what with Gamespot' and have been delighted to see GiantBomb grow to become a key gaming site for all who love the industry. A massive thanks as to go to Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinny for entertaining me for so many hours last year (not to mention the many years before) and let's hope it continues with such joy. Also credit to Whiskey Media for creating such a stunning site in the first place. We all love you guys.

Now that's out the way, I know it's a pretty short blog but I don't have a lot of time at the moment. Hopefully I'll get back to reviewing in the near future.
