Deep Listens: Visual Cohesiveness, Narrative Ambiguity, and the Many Layers of The Witness

by thatpinguino

Deep Listens is a gaming podcast series I'm recording with a few of my friends. Every two weeks we pick and play a new game and then discuss it from a literary, philosophical, and game design perspective. Its kind of like a book club for videogames. We try to dig as deep as we can on an individual game every episode so check it out! In this part 1 we are once again joined by game design student...

In this part 1 we are once again joined by game design student Tyler Morgan as we try our best to discuss The Witness without spoiling anything. As a result, we only discuss the game's sound design, visual aesthetic, and tutorial area. We also talk about whether the game was worth it's $40 price point and whether we would recommend it to others. In short, The Witness is really hard to talk about without spoiling anything.

In part 2 we are still joined by game design student Tyler Morgan as we take off the spoiler shackles and talk freely about The Witness. We discuss as many of the puzzle mechanics, levels, and hidden secrets. We also talk about how The Witness's long development time allowed it's development team to create one of the most narratively and mechanically consistent games ever made. We finish up the podcast by talking about what lingering questions we still have about the world of The Witness.
