My first attempts at painting in Photoshop!

Ok so for the past 3-4 days I've been trying my hand at photoshop in order to prepare a portfolio for my interview at NID (UG for communication design). I thought it would make my portfolio stronger if I had some photoshop work in addition to my regular sketches (which is all that we need to get) So anyways, I thought i'd present me amateurish work to the talented people of giantbomb. So anyways, I thought i'd present me amateurish work to the talented people of giantbomb. Here's my progress in the past few days. Feel free to comment :)
Oh, and all of them are done with a mouse:
Ok, I know the one above has a LARGE number of flaws (esp his arms), but this ones my first complete photoshop painting so I guess its expected.
So I improved on a number of aspects here, and got a little bit of a hang of light and shadows. Still, there was overuse of outlines, which I realized later. Also, me and my friends have made enough jokes about what he seems to be doing.
I wanted to show him kind of out of breath, sputtering after having run some distance in the rain. But since I didn't know how to show rain and him drenched in water, he ended up looking as if he's sneezing... or coughing.. or gagging.
Jokes on the above drawing are welcome.
So this is my final painting, and I can say I'm quite satisfied with it. I improved upon almost all the big mistakes i'd been making, plus the overall result is quite pleasing :)
I took the help of a few tutorials for the sky and the water, and made sure to get rid of all the outlines, replacing them with proper shadows and highlights.
Though one thing that is bothering me is the Monk on the left. He's quite blurred in comparison to the kid on the right. But I guess I'll be able to improve upon that in the forthcoming paintings :)
Thanks for checking it out!
