Hey guys, dankempster here, taking a short break from the tedium of essay writing to cook up a little blogosphere goodness for y'all (emphasis on little - they say time is money, and I am on a student's income).

HOLYSHITWHATWASTHAT?!?!After finally finishing the first of my assignments last night, I treated myself to a bit of time on the 360. The game in question: Dead Space. I played through the first chapter and all I can say is holy shit, the game is damn scary. Obviously I've only scratched the surface of what the game has to offer, but those Necromorphs scare the crap out of me! In around an hour of play time, I've already experienced more heart-in-mouth moments than I did throughout the whole of Resident Evil 4. I think a lot of it is down to the atmospheric audio in the game. The disembodied sounds of scurrying enemies and unexpected creaks from the machinery of the USG Ishimura are making me shit bricks a hell of a lot more often than the jump scares are. I dread to think what awaits Isaac in the rest of the game. What's surprised me the most is how much I'm enjoying being scared, though. I've never been one for horror movies, but Dead Space is giving me an adrenaline rush like I've previously never experienced from any film, book or game. I really look foward to putting a little more time into it. With any luck, I might be able to play some more tonight, as soon as I'm done with IPA charts and constraints on syllable structure.

Thanks for reading, guys. Sorry it's short, but hey, it's better than nothing. I'll no doubt write up some more detailed thoughts on Dead Space when I've spent more time with it, and when I have less University work to worry about. In the meantime, see you around.
