Please Reconnect Your Controller...

My wireless Xbox 360 controller has finally given up the ghost. It was almost expected, to be honest. It's been temperamental ever since I received it packaged with my 360 last March. The left analog stick always had a tendency to pull ever so slightly to the left, but it was something that I learned to cope with and compensate for. This morning, I settled down with my controller in hand to play some Borderlands. In the middle of a firefight, my controller disconnected and a pop-up appeared on screen asking me to reconnect it. I figured it was probably the batteries (I have a habit of not noticing when they're about to die), so I changed them and resumed play. Almost instantaneously, the controller disconnected again and I got the same message. After about five minutes of experimenting, I came to the conclusion that every time I pull the right trigger, it causes the controller to lose power and disconnect. It probably goes without saying that sad faces ensued. I'm a pretty careful guy with my controllers - I'm not a rage-quitter, and my controllers never get thrown around or take a beating when I'm not doing particularly well in a game. As a result, this mishap caught me completely off-guard.

R.I.P. Thinking about it, though, it's kind of funny. You hear many stories about hardware faults related to the 360 itself, like the infamous red ring of death and the E74 error, but never anything about controllers breaking (well, not without provocation, anyway). It's my only controller, so I currently have no means of playing my 360. This means that I can't play Borderlands or the other 360 game I have on the go, Fable II, so for now my adventures in both Pandora and Albion are on indefinite hold. The (somewhat) good news is that as a result of this, I'll probably be almost exclusively playing my PSP for a little while. This means that you can expect to see a few more episodes of Enduring Final Fantasy VII during the 360's down time. For those of you waiting on Episode Three, rest assured it's coming. I'll probably get around to writing it on Friday, in fact. I also have a couple of other blogs planned - one related to my experience with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and another concerning my opinion of Xbox LIVE. Hopefully I'll get around to writing those soon, too. Anyway, thanks for reading this short update. Take care guys, and I'll see you around.
