Backlog 365: Day 26 - Midnight Mysteries: The Salem Witch Trials

For Backlog 365 I plan on playing one game on my backlog everyday this year and write about it. For each game I will decide if I want to put it on my "Shelved" list (games that I plan to come back to and play in depth) or put it on the "Retired" list (games that I will delete or sell and move on with my life).

I am such a mark for the hidden picture games; this love goes all the way back to Highlights magazines. Whenever one of these games goes free on iOS, I’ll pick it up and sink a couple of hours into it. However, they must have a story, I just can’t do a hidden picture unless there is some pretense of finding some item, for some reason. This is why I ended up buying a bundle of these Midnight Mystery games. I wasn’t sure about playing these games on the computer. Part of the appeal is cuddling up with the iPad and trying to find some things in busy pictures. When I played the first one I didn’t really like it. It was a stupid story, messy puzzles, and I didn’t like sitting at my computer to play it.

Knowing that I didn’t like the first one I didn’t have high hopes for Midnight Mysteries: The Salem Witch Trials. But, I surprisingly ended up digging this one. The story has a bit more ‘mystery’ and puzzles are pretty clear cut. I am totally going to play it, and (I don’t want to jinx it but…) Salem Witch Trials has the goods to knock off Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden as my favorite hidden picture game.
