A Baka and His Blog 8/17/25: Life, Gaming and Stuff
*Stained guy voice* It’s been awhile. Seriously though, why am I writing this? As you can see by the date of my last blog, it's been a minute. While I never fully went away, I'm definitely a lapsed participant in this corner of the gaming sphere. This is an attempt to shake the dust off and get this thing going again. OK, I think a quick rundown of what I've been up to is a good place to start....

Seriously though, why am I writing this? As you can see by the date of my last blog, it's been a minute. While I never fully went away, I'm definitely a lapsed participant in this corner of the gaming sphere. This is an attempt to shake the dust off and get this thing going again.
OK, I think a quick rundown of what I've been up to is a good place to start. It’s such an understatement to say the Covid-19 pandemic hit everyone hard. I weathered it better than most, I think, because things didn't really change for me. However, it did change for others, including the GB crew. You probably know much more about the events that followed, so I won't rehash.
Now, it wasn’t that I disliked the changes that were happening, more like I thought ‘I’ll just dip out and focus on other things, when I come back things will be running normally’
That didn’t happen.
My GB viewing fell off greatly, as did my interest in games. Everything started to blend together. The cycle of hype became tiresome. Keeping up with(and buying) new games got to be too much. My gaming consumption was relegated to Youtube, but even that grew exhausting. There's only so many 2+ hour retrospectives one can watch before becoming numb to them. Part of me thought that the only way to really enjoy video games was to be a streamer. Also, I don’t play games with others or talk about them, so seeing people actually enjoying games together became alienating.
Then in the past few months another major shakeup happened to this site. That less to do with my return than did Blight Club cropping up in my Youtube recs and me binging the whole series. They had me, I was hooked, again.
Now that we’re here, I’m getting back into the groove. I think the key going forward is to just enjoy games at my own pace and not worry about the wider culture. I have actually finished a few games this year, so maybe I'l do a write-up on them.
Thanks for reading this and keep cool out there!
