Piss filter games that earned it

by redfoxbennaton

In the late 2000s we wanted realism. So we made games brown as shit. Some games though earned there muted tones and these one of them

Shadow of the Colossus

1. Shadow of the Colossus

Shadows of the colosus deserves the piss filter because of its incredibly dark and uninviting atmosphere. Everything is just so miserable in this gams it's hard to describe. Well truely, its like a cgi cartoon with that sad part.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

2. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

MGS4 SE didnt make sense with it's piss filter so much being in a Russian jungle but it didnt help the Boss's death feel any better.

Silent Hill 4: The Room

3. Silent Hill 4: The Room

Silent Hill 4 the Room is depressing, everywhere is brown and desaturated. It was Dark and wonderous.

Resident Evil 4

4. Resident Evil 4

RE4 made everything brown and grey because it had too. In stark contrast to the other games before it which where incredibly shiny and colorful. RE4 used its bleak tones to highlight the atmosphere in a subtle way then kick Zombie ass

Silent Hill

5. Silent Hill

Fuck it, the entire Silent Hill franchise feels like a dead dog. You think CGI cutscenes will save you? No, Brown and fog is everywhere. Even in 3.

Fallout 3

6. Fallout 3

War, war never changes. Don't let Dog meat die now. Fallout 3 deserves it because of its bleak post apocalyptic atmosphere. Fallout 3 had good graphics for 9 seconds then everyone began to puke at its 1994 cgi appearance.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

7. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

War has changed.

Metro

8. Metro

"I still remember life before the War. I remember that we used to be different, used to live up there, on the surface. We used to be the masters of the whole world. We built gigantic cities of glass and steel, we crossed oceans at will, and we also conquered the skies. There used to be seven billion of us. We were not born for life in the tunnels. I was born to breathe fresh air and I remember it! The seven billion were wiped out by the Last War. Only fifty thousand managed to survive underground, with the Surface poisoned, burnt and teeming with horrible monsters. One day the radiation on the surface might subside, and our grandchildren or their grandchildren might be able to return there. At least, that's what my brothers-in-arms from the Order believe. Basically, there was no hope for us right off the start. Still, we, humans, are just too bad at surrendering. We tried to make the best of what we had, we banded together and worked to make the Metro our new home. After all, it might well be the only place left on Earth for humans to live. For a time, we thought we could make it... But, regrettably, the War didn't kill our bad habits. In the relative safety of the tunnels, corruption festered, and when danger came from above the ground, only a few of us stood against it, our numbers dwindling by the day. But I remember we were born for a better life, and I can't accept that I'm destined to grow old and die underground. I don't care if I'm called an idiot, but if even a single shard of the old world still exists out there, I have to find it. Between endless years of hopeless existence and even a single moment of hope, I must choose hope. I must find that signal!"

Quake

9. Quake

Pretty much the inventor of this trope.

Resistance: Retribution

10. Resistance: Retribution

I always wanted to get this game as a kid. Not that Resistance as a Franchise was ever meaningful but it did spark atmosphere.
