Cities: Skylines

3. Cities: Skylines

Cities: Skylines is probably the worst game on this list - not that it's bad. But I love city builders and SimCity 2013 was such a disappointment for me. This game was basically a love letter to disaffected fans and for all of its flaws I've put in a lot of hours making sprawling cities and needlessly complex roads.

Forza Horizon 4

4. Forza Horizon 4

In truth, any of the Horizon games could be here. Rarely has one series so comprehensively nailed a sub-genre as Forza Horizon, a series I thought would be a nice diversion but ended up making regular old Forza Motorsport a total irrelevance for me. A mix of amazing graphics, lovingly crafted worlds, a comprehensive car list with deep customisation and great physics blend together almost perfectly.

Grand Theft Auto V

iRacing

6. iRacing

I'm breaking the rules a bit since technically this came out in 2008, but as one of the pioneers of the "games as a service" model (for better or for worse) iRacing had changed significantly over the decade. At a time where there are arguably more great simulator games than ever before, iRacing has had a virtual monopoly over the competitive online sphere outside of organised leagues. Whilst there have been some baby steps by the competition in this regard, particularly linked with the rise of simracing as an eSport, iRacing is still the king. I've had so many more memorable moments in this game simply because of the great online racing it often provides.
