These are my favorites, not some universal best or most important list. I don't play many sports, racing, or Nintendo games, thus, they are not represented here.
Additionally, I tried to not include multiples of a series (unless the different entries in the series held special significance for me). I played COD games through black ops, but only included Modern Warfare because I thought that one was probably the high point of the series, though arguably MW2 perfected the multiplayer.

2010. The story, world, music, and game-play hit me just right. The giant human terminator at the end is the only part that sticks out as bad four years on. Mordin Solus for the win.
2013. Quite possibly the most accomplished storytelling in video games. Also, that ending.
2007. Would you kindly... It falls off after the ryan encounter. Incredible world
