Astro Bot

1. Astro Bot

Astro is the perfect summary and mirror on our discussion and 2024 and the last 12 years. It’s a celebration of fun and great games and it’s weirdly tragic to see all these amazing games referenced and be reminded of how little is moving forward now

Dragon's Dogma II

2. Dragon's Dogma II

Less interested in authored content in games more interested in being given prompts that then allow me to bring my own storytelling to the game. That being our interactions with systems and let me see and tell my own unique journey through something - or that it feels like it’s unique to me even if it’s not. LEAVE ME ALONE GAMES, it's great at that That will always be the most compelling form of video game to me, interactivity with systems in a fun sandbox where consequences are real but not so punishing as to limit creativity and prodding at things COOKING FMV

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

3. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

its fun being places you shouldnt be in games (remember the simple act of jumping onto a rooftop in elden ring coop, that feeling) -these are my cozy game equivalent, aka imsims that are mostly about avoiding combat. I found the entire experience to be deeply relaxing -i really like just wandering around in games and that's 90% of the game -the lack of violence is surprisingly refreshing. Outside of the one or two big setpieces, I killed one single enemy in 25 hours and it was really, really memorable and impactful -scratched that globe trotting exotic location adventure itch

Arco

-kind of the game that got me back into enjoying indie games -beautiful art and music -the world is good. it's dark and messed up but there's a bit of magical realism going on and isn't overly self serious -solid and snappy enough writing -the combat is EXCELLENT -doesn't overstay its welcome, it's a nice 12 or so hours and then done

Helldivers II

Silent Hill 2

6. Silent Hill 2

the self seriousness of it is good and respectable but I also like RE's tone more, it helps keep the pacing fresh
