GOTY 2019

by d_w

I didn't play a lot of the games that got really a lot of recognition this year. In fact you can see all the games I've played and what I thought about them for each section on my list here.

Honorable mention goes to games that were on my list last year, Slay The Spire and Hades.

FutureGrind

This game is great! sort of a mix between Uniracers and Ikaruga. Really has the "just one more attempt" thing going for it. It plays super well.

Code Vein

2. Code Vein

This one surprised me. Not only do I really enjoy it's combat and the way it streamlines it's RPG mechanics, but the story and characters grabbed me as well.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Edelgard was right.

Disco Elysium

THE FUCK DOES CUNO CARE

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

5. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

The best Castlevania since Portrait of Ruin. It's not quite as good as some of the other castlevania-likes that have come out (ex Timespinner), but for what is basically an official one it's fantastic.

Indivisible

This was a game where playing it I had a lot of frustrations, but the more I thought about it the more I realized how much I enjoyed my time with it.

Risk of Rain 2

Great podcast game. Great multiplayer game. You can easily edit a file to give you all the unlockables and then just have fun.

God Eater 3

8. God Eater 3

I didn't finish this game 'cause the pc controls were pretty awkward and I couldn't find anyone to play the multiplayer parts with, but it was really cool. I don't think I'd ever enjoy an mainline Monster Hunter, but this sort of arcade-y version was right up my alley.

The World Next Door

9. The World Next Door

This game was cute and short. I kinda wish there was more to it, but I liked what's there.

Noita

I don't think this game is there yet. It has a lot of good ideas, but I can't figure out how to not die constantly to see them. I certainly will continue to watch it though.
